النَفسُ إِن لَم تَذُق مَوتاً مُشارِفَةٌ

إِن لَم يَحُمَّ بِقَدرٍ يَومُها يَحُمِ

If the soul has not tasted imminent death,

If its day has not been heated by fate,

إِن تَطفَإِ النارُ عَن جَزلٍ فَإِنَّ لَها

يُعفى وَيُخبَأُ ما أَبقَت مِنَ الفَحَمِ

If the fire is not extinguished of its intensity,

Then the remaining embers are concealed and forgiven.

وَبَعضُ جِسمِكَ يَرمي بَعضَهُ بِأَذى

وَأَكثَرُ الشَرِّ يَأتي مِن ذَوي الرَحِمِ

And part of your body harms another part,

And most harm comes from close relatives.

وَيَشتَهي الناسُ ما لا يُسعَفونَ بِهِ

وَشِركَةُ الخَلقِ دونَ الحَملِ في الوَحَمِ

And people desire what they cannot attain,

And people's fellowship is less than a fetus in the womb.
