My life leads to adversity and weakness

And my profession, for my God, is the noblest of professions

It is free from the harm of an unrighteous mother

And makes light of difficulties in its sanctuaries

We are but guests of time, it offers us no home

Except death, while we now live in yearning

And I have refused, disdaining, for my rebelling soul

Every refusal, though I stand hostage in it

God knows the unseen, I do not try to fathom it

From astrologers, nor do I seek it in soothsayers
