العَيشُ أَدّى إِلى ضُرٍّ وَمَهلَكَةٍ

لَولا الحَياةُ لَكانَ الجِسمُ كَالصَنَمِ

Life led to harm and demise

If not for life, the body would be like an idol

مَن يَفقِدِ الحِسَّ لا يُعرَف بِمَخزِيَةٍ

إِنَّ الذُبابَ يَعلُ الجَنى يَنَمِ

He who loses senses is not known for disgrace

Flies can make the side of the cheek sleep

هَذا الأَنامُ لَهُ شَأنٌ يُرادُ بِهِ

وَأَنتَ غَيري وَلَيسَ الأَريُ كَالهَنَمِ

People have intentions in what they want

And you are different, the gaze is not like glancing

مَعنىً خَبيءٌ عَلى ما بانَ مِنهُ كَما

تُبنى الزَوائِدُ مِن يا أَوسُ لا تَنَمِ

A hidden meaning beyond the apparent as

Extras are built, O Aws do not sleep

وَحاجَةُ النَفسِ تُرضيها بِما سَخَطَت

وَكَم تَجَرَّأَ رَبُّ الإِبلِ بِالغَنَمِ

And the soul's need satisfies it with what angered it

How often the lord of camels dared with the sheep

دَعِ الكَعابَ الَّتي لَم يُدنِ مَأكَلُها

مِن لُؤلُؤِ الثَغرِ إِلّا قانِىِ العَنَمِ

Leave the food that its eating did not come close

To the lips' pearl except the buyer of idols
