1. أَعاذِلَتي اِرتَجَزتُ عَلى المَنايا

    أُؤَمِّلُ أَن يُشَجِّعُني اِرتِجازي

    My beloved, I composed verses about fate

    I hope my composition encourages me

  2. تَمُرُّ حَوادِثٌ وَيَطولُ دَهرٌ

    وَيَفتَقِرُ المُجيزُ إِلى المُجازِ

    Events pass and time lengthens

    And the eloquent needs metaphor

  3. وَكَيفَ أَرومُ مِنكَ جَميلَ فِعلٍ

    إِذا أَيقَنتُ أَنّي غَيرُ جازِ

    How can I expect a good deed from you

    When I'm sure I don't deserve it

  4. وَلَيسَ عَلى الحَقائِقِ كُلُّ قَولي

    وَلَكِن فيهِ أَصنافُ المَجازِ

    Not all my words match reality

    But contain various metaphors

  5. لَعَلَّ الرافِدَينِ وَنيلِ مِصرٍ

    يَحُرنَ فَيَنتَقِلنَ إِلى الحِجازِ

    Perhaps the Tigris, Euphrates and Nile of Egypt

    Will be moved and flow to Hejaz
