1. حَسبُ الفَتى مِن ذُنوبٍ وَصفُهُ رَجُلاً

    بِالخَيرِ وَهوَ عَلى ضِدِّ الَّذي يَصِفُ

    A man's worth lies not in sins described,

    While portraying him as virtuous, though he's otherwise inclined.

  2. وَقَد خَبِرتُ بَني الدُنيا فَلَيتَهُمُ

    أَو لَيتَني حَمَلَتني عَنهُمُ العُصُفُ

    I've known the folk of this world - would they were not,

    Or I'd been blown far from them by the winds aloft.

  3. فَظالِمٌ آخِذٌ ما لا يَحِلُّ لَهُ

    وَمُنصِفٌ ظَلَّ فيهِم لَيسَ يَنتَصِفُ

    For the oppressor seizes what isn't his by right,

    While the just man among them remains oppressed despite his might.
