1. أَراني في قَيدِ الحَياةِ مُكَلَّفاً

    ثَقائِلَ أَمشي تَحتَها وَأُطابِقُ

    I see myself compelled in the shackles of life

    Bearing heavy burdens as I walk beneath them conforming

  2. إِذا كُنتَ في دارِ الشَقاءِ مُصَلِيّاً

    فَإِنَّكَ في دارِ لسَعادَةِ سابِقُ

    If you are praying in the abode of misery

    You are in fact ahead in the abode of happiness

  3. إِذا الحُرُّ لَم يَنهَض بِفَرضِ صَلاتِهِ

    فَذَلِكَ عَبدٌ مِن يَدِ الدَهرِ آبِقُ

    If the free man does not undertake his ordained prayers

    He is a slave escaped from the hands of fate

  4. تَقيٌّ يُعاني ظِمئَهُ وَمُضَلَّلٌ

    لَهُ صابِحٌ مِن غَيرِ حِلٍّ وَغابِقُ

    A devout man suffering his thirst, and a misguided one

    Having a morning drink without lawful or forbidden
