أَلَم تَرَ أَنَّني حَيٌّ كَمَيتٍ
أُداري الوَقتَ أَو مَيتٌ كَحَيِّ
Do you not see that I am alive like a dead man
I pass the time or dead like a living one
أُحاذِرُ عالَمي وَأَخافُ مِنّي
وَأَلحى الناسَ بَلَهَ بَني لُحَيِّ
I am wary of my world and fear myself
And people find me confused like the son of Luhey
وَهُم لي مِثلُ ما كانَت قَديماً
لِقَيسِ بنِ الخَطيمِ بَنو دُحَيِّ
And they are to me as they were long ago
