1. غُضَّ الجُفونَ إِذا جَلَس

    تَ عَلى الصَعيدِ وَلا تَأَمَّل

    Shut your eyes when sitting

    On the ground, do not contemplate

  2. وَالبَيتُ أَولى بِالكَري

    مِ مِنَ الطَريقِ وَإِن تَجَمَّل

    Home is more deserving of honor

    Than the road, even if adorned

  3. وَالذِكرُ يَترُكُهُ الفَتى

    لِلقاطِنينَ إِذا تَحَمَّل

    Memories are left by the youth

    For the settled, when he shoulders a burden

  4. وَالمَرءُ تُعجِبُهُ الحَيا

    ةُ وَعَيشُهُ سُمٌّ يُثمَل

    And man is pleased by life

  5. مَن ذا الَّذي سَمَحَ الزَما

    نُ لَهُ بِإِدراكِ المُؤَمَّل

  6. فيهِ تَوافى المُرمِلو

    نَ وَقَلَّ أَصحابُ المُرَمَّل

    In it the sleepless meet

    And few are the owners of blankets

  7. حِيَلٌ تُمَنُّ عَلى الأَنا

    مِ فَأَدمُعُ العُقَلاءِ هُمَّل

    Ruses that grant wishes to the sleepless

    So the tears of the wise flow

  8. كَم غَرَّ صاحِبَةَ الجَما

    لِ مُنَجَّمٌ بِحِسابِ جُمَّل

    How often an astrologer with phony calculations
