1. مَن يَعرِفِ الدُنيا يَهُن عِندَهُ

    إِمراعُها الدَهرَ وَإِمحالُها

    Whoever knows this world will be humbled

    Its deception lasts long and its tribulations endless

  2. لَذّاتُها تُعجِبُ أَملاكَها

    لَو لَم تُغَيَّر بِهِمُ حالُها

    Its pleasures entrance its kings

    If it did not change their circumstances

  3. دارٌ حَلَلناها عَلى رَغمِنا

    وَإِنَّما يُنظَرُ تَرحالُها

    It is a house we inhabited against our will

    And we watch it only to move on

  4. وَالخَودُ كَالنَخلَةِ مَجنِيَّةٌ

    وَزَوجُها البائِسُ فُحّالُها

    The cheeks are like a laden date palm

    And her poor husband collects its fruit
