1. تَنوطُ بِنا الحَوادِثُ كُلُّ ثِقلٍ

    وَرَبُّ الناسِ يَصرُفُ ما تَنوطُ

    Every heavy burden is fastened upon us,

    Yet God may change whatever is fastened.

  2. وَلَيسَ بِحانِطٍ رِمثي بِأَرضٍ

    إِذا ما قارَنَ الكَفَنَ الحُنوطُ

    There is no despairer so vile on earth,

    That shroud and coffin will not make despondent.

  3. وَلَم أَقنَط لِسوءِ الفِعلِ مِنّي

    وَحُقَّ لِمِثلِ فاعِلُها القُنوطُ

    I am not in despair because of my evil acts,

    Though by rights acts like them make one despondent.
