1. ما أَوصَلَ السَيفَ قَطّاعاً لِحامِلِهِ

    وَأَبلَغَ الذابِلَ المَوصوفَ بِالخَطَلِ

    The sword never connected its bearer as a cutter

    And the languid one never achieved the one described as slack

  2. قَد وافَياكَ بِتاجِ المُلكِ عَن عُرُضٍ

    وَأَثرَياكَ بِحَليِ الكاعِبِ العُطُلِ

    They brought you the crown of kingship generously

    And endowed you with the adornment of the idle cavalier

  3. وَأحرَزاكَ بِمِقدارٍ إِلى أَمَدٍ

    وَأَنجَزا لَكَ وَعدَ الكُذَّبِ المُطُلِ

    And secured you for a period of time

    And fulfilled for you the promise of the mendacious procrastinator

  4. وَالسَيفُ إِن قالَ أَبدى نَبأَةً عَجَباً

    في وَزنِ حَرفَينِ لَم يُكثِر وَلَم يُطِلِ

    And if the sword ever spoke, it would reveal wondrous news

    In the rhyme of two letters, it did not prolong or drag on

  5. سَلمانُ تُفهَمُ عَنهُ فارِسِيَّتُهُ

    فَدَع سُلَيمانَ وَالمَعنى رَدى البَطَلُ

    Salman, his Persian origin is understood from him

    So leave Solomon alone and the meaning has returned the hero
