They knew the phantom would soon disappear

So they indulged in wine and woke up sober

They preserved no neighbor and did no good

Nor profited in noble deeds a bit

They donned their clothes in vain, no elegance gained

In their golden robes they looked hideous instead

They called on God, hoping He'd answer them

Wicked they were, and rogues of little worth

How many a neck they severed, how many they maimed

How many a merchant did they ambush and kill

Do not envy people lost in misguidance

Though they seem to revel in blessings and wealth
