Leave destiny to take its course,
Neither Damascus nor Egypt could protect a kingdom,
Neither black Harrat nor white Basra fortified by walls,
You try to predict events in vain,
These are principles that cannot be comprehended,
At dawn's light the noon prayer,
At sunset's fall the afternoon prayer,
Shortening prayers is not proper everywhere,
Nor are all obligatory prayers to be shortened,
If death is inevitable, meet it,
Whether it comes by being slit at the throat or waist,
Ali passed after victory and glory,
And Hamza before victory could come,
I see the progeny of old Father Adam,
Long ago ordained by fate to fall.
