رُوَيدَكَ قَد غُرِرتَ وَأَنتَ حُرٌّ

بِصاحِبِ حيلَةٍ يَعِظُ النِساءَ

Slow down, you have been deceived though you are free,

By a scheming advisor who preaches to women.

يُحَرِّمُ فيكُمُ الصَهباءَ صُبحاً

وَيَشرَبُها عَلى عَمَدٍ مَساءَ

He prohibits you the blond in the morning,

Yet he drinks it deliberately in the evening.

تَحَسّاها فَمِن مَزجٍ وَصِرفٍ

يَعُلُّ كَأَنَّما وَرَدَ الحِساءَ

You will recognize it from his mixing and pouring

As if fresh milk has arrived.

يَقولُ لَكُم غَدَوتُ بِلا كِساءٍ

وَفي لَذَّتِها رَهَنَ الكِساءَ

He tells you "I woke up without a garment"

Yet for the pleasure of it he pawned his garment.

إِذا فَعَلَ الفَتى ماعَنهُ يَنهى

فَمِن جِهَتَينِ لا جِهَةٍ أَساءَ

When a young man does what he prohibits,

He has done wrong in two ways, not one.
