إِذا أُلِفَ الشَيءُ اِستَهانَ بِهِ الفَتى
فَلَم يَرَهُ بُؤسى يُعَدُّ وَلا نُعمى
When something becomes familiar, the youth takes it lightly,
He sees in it no misery to count, nor blessing.
كَإِنفاقِهِ مِن عُمرِهِ وَمَساغِهِ
مِنَ الريقِ عَذباً لايُحِسُّ لَهُ طَعما
Like spending his lifetime, and swallowing
Sweet saliva - its taste he cannot sense.
وَما اِرتابَ في لُقيا الرَدى وَكَأَنَّهُ
حَديثٌ أَتى مِن كاذِبٍ يُبطِلُ الزَعما
He has no doubt meeting death, as though
It was a story from a liar, negating the claim.
