أَصاحِ هِيَ الدُنيا تُشابِهُ ميتَةً
وَنَحنُ حَوالَيها الكِلابُ النَوابِحُ
This world resembles a lifeless corpse
And we are like the howling dogs around it
فَمَن ظَلَّ مِنها آكِلاً فَهوَ خاسِرٌ
وَمَن عادَ عَنها ساغِباً فَهوَ رابِحُ
Whoever keeps devouring it is at loss
And whoever turns away from it is at gain
فَمَن لَم تَبَيَّتهُ الخُطوبُ فَإِنَّهُ
سَيَصبَحُهُ مِن حادِثِ الدَهرِ صابِحُ
He who is not awakened by calamities
Will face the blows of time when morn arrives
