1. كادَت سِنّي إِذا نَطَقتُ تُقيمُ لي لَهُ

    شَخصاً يُعارِضُ بِالعِظاتِ مُبَكِّتا

    Whenever I speak, my years almost erect before me

    A figure who reproaches me with admonitions that make me weep,

  2. وَتَقولُ مَن بَعَثَ اللِسانَ بِغَيرِ ما

    أَرضى فَحَقٌّ أَن يُهانَ وَيَسكُتا

    And say, “He who looses his tongue with other than what

    Pleases [God], it is right that he should be disgraced and silenced.”
