يَحِلُّ بِمَهرٍ رَحيقُ الرُضابِ

وَلَيسَ يَحِلُّ رَحيقُ العِنَب

The perfume of camphor acts lawful with dowry

Yet grape perfume acts not lawful

يُعيدُ الفَتى كَالَّذي نابَهُ

جُنونٌ عَلى أَنَّهُ لَم يُنِب

The youth returns as if madness struck him

Though he was not mad to begin with

وَما أَخَذَ العَقلَ مِن أَهلِهِ

وَإِن هُوَ غَرَّ اللَمى وَالشَنَب

And sanity cannot be taken from its people

Even if it fools the shining and the gray
