Whoever sits with the slanderer is a slanderer

I do not blame every straying soul

Nor bar the repentant transgressor's path

How can I attain unsullied piety?

I cut from it a piece of linen and patch

While rancors smolder beneath the ashes

    A loathsome soul disquiets me

Tracing lines in the sand like writers

Indeed I doubt my own piety

And have no doubt in the bloodstained dove
