أَما وَاللَهِ لَو أَنّي تَقيٌّ

لَما آخَيتُ مِثلَكَ وَهوَ قاضِ

By Allah, if I were pious

I would not have befriended you, being a judge,

وَلَكِن بِتُّ شَرّاً مِنكَ فِعلاً

فَأَغنَيتُ الوِدادَ عَنِ التَقاضي

But I have committed evils worse than yours,

So I have made affection independent of litigation.

فَلا تَنقُض حِبالَ العَهدِ مِنّي

فَما تَخشى لَدَيَّ مِن اِنتِفاضي

So do not break the ropes of the covenant from me,

For you have nothing to fear from me rebelling.
