لَنا خَفضُ المَحَلَّةِ وَالدَنايا
وَلِلَّهِ المَكارِمُ وَالعُلُوّ
To us belong low station and base things;
to God belong noble deeds and exaltation.
إِذا كانَ الهَوى في النَفسِ طَبعاً
فَلَيسَ بِغَيرِ ميتَتِها سُلُوّ
If passion is ingrained in the soul,
nothing but its death can bring release.
وَإِن أَهَلَت دِيارٌ مِن أُناسٍ
فَسَوفَ يَمَسُّها مِنهُم خُلُوُّ
And though dwellings become inhabited by people,
they will soon feel the emptiness left by them.
