جِسمُ الفَتى مِثلُ قامَ فِعلٌ
مُذ كانَ ما فارَقَ اِعتِلالا
The young man's body is like “qāma” (“he rose”), a verb.
Since it came to be, it has never escaped infirmity.
وَالخِلُّ في لَفظِهِ ذَليلٌ
بِأَنَّ في وِدِّهِ اِختِلالا
And the friend sounds humble in his words,
Because there is a flaw in his affection.
مَلِلتُ مِن حِندِسٍ وَصُبحٍ
وَلَم أُبِن فيهِما مَلالا
I have grown weary of deep darkness and morning,
Yet I have shown no weariness of either.
