1. يَكفيكَ أُدماً سَليطٌ ماأُريقَ لَهُ

    دَمٌ وَلا مَسَّ رَوحاً إِذ جَرى أَلَمُ

    Enough for you is a defamer running his mouth

    Whose blood was never shed, nor his soul touched when pain struck.

  2. لَهُ فَضائِلُ مِنها فَقدُ كُلفَتِهِ

    وَأَنَّهُ بِسَناهُ تَنجَلي الظُلَمُ

    He has some virtues - among them losing his wrap

    And that his malice is dispelled by his teeth.

  3. قالوا تُقُسُّمَ مَقتولٌ عَلى حَنَقٍ

    فَقُلتُ سِيّانِ كَلمُ المَيتِ وَالكَلِمُ

    They said a dead man is carved up due to hatred.

    I said, "The speech of the dead is the same as of the speaker."

  4. إِن وَدَّعوهُ فَما يَدري بِما صَنَعوا

    أَو قَطَّعوهُ فَما يَنتابُهُ أَلَمُ

    If they bid him farewell, he knows not what they did.

    Or if they cut him up, no pain touches him.

  5. وَرُبَّ أَزهَرَ يُلقى هامُهُ هَدَراً

    كَما يُقَطُّ لِأَدنى عِلَّةٍ قَلَمُ

    How often a blossom is cast aside negligently

    As a pen is discarded for the slightest cause.
