How fine a creed this law is!
It endures, unrevoked amid what has been revoked.
Wonders have come—alas for us!
As though we lived in a world transformed.
The body is like a garment upon its soul,
Taken off before it wears out or grows soiled.
And the child, whether dutiful or wicked,
Is severed like a branch from its father’s stock.
