1. Time passed, and a body came to lie in the dust.

    Have men ever enjoyed the full span of their days?

  2. In the view of one group, the soul belongs to the earth;

    In the view of another, it rises through the heavens.

  3. It goes in the form of the person it inhabited

    to an abode of bliss or misery.

  4. Its dwelling in the fallen body made it need

    clothes that burdened it, and food.

  5. God’s power is real; it is not beyond that power

    to gather creation or raise the dead.

  6. Marvel at the heavenly bodies, silent

    as they are said to be, though some have voices.

  7. Do not obey people whose religion is

    only a device for collecting tribute.

  8. It is the hope of gain that made the reader carry the Torah,

    not love of its recitations.

  9. Religious laws have sown grudges among us

    and filled us with many forms of enmity.

  10. Were the women of that people made lawful to the Arabs without cause

    by anything but the rulings of prophecies?
