1. Will you not agree concerning God, clan of Muslim?

    For you have strayed in obeying your desires.

  2. And do not follow Satan in his footsteps;

    How many among you follow those footsteps!

  3. You turned to the doctrine of dualism after

    the sweetness of God's oneness had passed over your tongues.

  4. For less than what you have displayed, spears were stained,

    and horses' blood surged through the dust.

  5. Even these beasts would not approve your conduct:

    your wrongdoing concerning mothers and mothers-in-law.

  6. The least you deemed lawful was to slaughter an armored man

    who fills you with drunkenness and rapture.

  7. You made Ali your shield, though he always

    punished even a few sips of wine.

  8. We asked the Zoroastrians about the truth of their religion,

    and they said, ‘Yes, we do not marry sisters.’

  9. ‘That is permitted under the original Magian creed,

    but we count it among errors.

  10. We reject atrocious deeds and seek

    to bow to the sunlight at dawn.’

  11. More excusable than your women in bearing

    disgraceful calamities are the she-asses of the wastes.

  12. So do not place a wayward man over them,

    as a falcon is set upon sandgrouse.

  13. You took the Reminder lightly when it came to you,

    and cared nothing for fasting and prayers.

  14. You hoped for a misguided imam at the conjunction;

    when it passed, you said, ‘In years to come.’

  15. So it is with Eve's children, righteous and wicked;

    the days must have their failings.
