إِن هاجَكِ البارِقُ فَإِهتاجي
لا يُمنَعُ الرِزقُ بِإِرتاجِ
If the lightning stirs you, then be stirred.
Sustenance is not withheld by barred doors.
أُصبِحُ في لَحدي عَلى وَحدَتي
لَستُ إِلى الدُنيا بِمُحتاجِ
I shall wake in my grave, alone;
I have no need of the world.
ما أُسدُ خَفّانَ بِمَتروكَةٍ
فيها وَلا غِزلانُ فِرتاجِ
The lions of Khafān are not left forsaken there,
nor are the gazelles of Firtāj.
كَشفِيَ رَأسي وَاِفتِقاري بِها
خَيرٌ مِنَ التَمليكِ وَالتاجِ
My uncovered head and my poverty in this world
are better than dominion and a crown.
