1. عُيوبي إِن سَأَلتَ بِها كَثيرٌ

    وَأَيُّ الناسِ لَيسَ لَهُ عُيوبُ

    If you ask about my faults, many will tell of them,

    For what person is there who has no faults?

  2. وَلِلإِنسانِ ظاهِرُ ما يَراهُ

    وَلَيسَ عَلَيهِ ما تُخفي الغُيوبُ

    A person sees only the outer self;

    Hidden by the mysteries are the inner faults.

  3. يَجُرّونَ الذُيولَ عَلى المَخازي

    وَقَد مُلِئَت مِنَ الغِشِّ الجُيوبُ

    They drag their trains upon the carpets,

    While their pockets are filled with deceit.

  4. وَكَيفَ يَصولُ في الأَيّامِ لَيثٌ

    إِذا وَهَتِ المَخالِبُ وَالنُيوبُ

    How can a lion rage in the days

    When his claws and fangs are blunted?
