1. To You, to You, O my Lord,

    I bear the burden of my sin.

  2. I have made my camel kneel at Your door, O God,

  3. And I called to You: O Go—

    —d, O my Lord; in You is all my sufficiency.

  4. Deal gently with me and forgive me

    the sins that have bowed my back.

  5. And guide me on the straight pa—

    —th, to Your sweet watering-place.

  6. Here I am now, in a sea of si—

    —ns, tremendous in depth.

  7. Take my hand and revive me,

    for I have been cast into ruin.

  8. Grant me success in what pleases You,

    and illumine my heart with guidance.

  9. Protect me from Sata—

    —n in my striving and my earning,

  10. in my speech and my intentions,

    in my deeds, and from lying.

  11. Make dear to me the performance of the obligato—

    —ry, the Sunnah-prescribed, and the recommended,

  12. and make me companion to one whom You approve,

    whom You accept among the companions.

  13. For those whom You nurture, though they may be

    unlike their peers, stand apart from my own kind.

  14. Make me content with sustenance fro—

    —m You, though it be only a handful of earth.

  15. Keep me far from capricious desires,

    and keep idle talk away from my side.

  16. I am the one who longs for the Crea—

    —tor, ardently—what an ardent lover!

  17. Overtake me with forgiveness

    and graces born of love.

  18. Compensate me, my God, fro—

    —m You: after distance, with nearness.

  19. For You are my aid in peace,

    and You are my aid in war.

  20. I have none but You, O God;

    [Damaged text:] ... helpers from among the ruined.

  21. Fifty years of mine have passed,

    and five more lie recorded in the books.

  22. Yet in them I earned nothing but si—

    —ns—wretched is whoever earned them.

  23. I spent my bygone youth

    on whims born of play.

  24. Its nights pulled me to and fro,

    each differing in its pull.

  25. I yearn, while they entice me toward some—

    —thing other than that for which I yearn.

  26. Whoever is beguiled by the da—

    —ys is furnished with healing enough.

  27. Gray hair has sufficed me as a warning

    and unveiled what lay absent and concealed.

  28. My sins remind me of the writ—

    —ing inscribed in my records.

  29. Whoever has suffered the upheavals of ti—

    —me no longer inclines toward mischief.

  30. And a neighbor who proves no neighbor

    of Dhubyān or Kalb.

  31. A person’s true companion is obedience

    for as long as he lives for the Lord.

  32. The worst contrivance of the perplex—

    —ed is to remove one sin with another.

  33. O Reliever, lift my anguish from me;

    here I am, constricted by distress.

  34. Accept my repentance from me,

    as I cast off sin like an itb garment.

  35. And bless the Prophet Muham—

    —mad, and all his family and Companions.
