    شعاري في الركوع وفي السجود

    You remind me of Layla, for if Layla

    Is my motto in bowing down and prostrating

  3. ولست لها بناس في قيامي

    ولا عنها بساهٍ في قعودي

    And I'm not her equal when I stand

    Nor about her when I sit

  4. يطارحني بها منها خيال

    مطارحة الكئيب هوى الخرود

    A fantasy of her casts me down

    The outcast's fantasy of an old love

  5. يغور الغور بي ليلاً لليلى

    وينجدني لها صبحاً نجودي

    It sinks me into the depths at night for Layla

    And my zeal saves me for her at dawn

  6. يلامحها فؤادي في التقاصي

    وتنظرها عيوني في رقودي

    My heart glimpses her in yearning

    And my eyes see her in my slumber

  7. وما من عاشق إلا لديه

    عواذلها أشد من الصدود

    And there is no lover who doesn't have

    Her coquetries, stronger than repulsions

  8. ألا أني شغفت بحب ليلى

    هوى شغف المحب المستعيد

    Behold, I have been passionate about loving Layla

    The passion of the enamored faithful lover

  9. ألا إني أحن لوصل ليلى

    حنين الخامسات إلى الورود

    Behold, I yearn for Layla's union

    The yearning of doves for flowers

  10. سعود الناس إن طلعت سعود

    وليلى إن تطالعني سعودي

    People have joy when joy rises

    And Layla when she smiles at me, my joy

  11. سألت اللَه أن يدني مزاري

    بليلى غير ناسية العهود

    I asked Allah to bring my visits

    To Layla, not forgetting the covenants

  12. ومن ذا لائمي إن رحت ماش

    لليلى والنعال ولو خدودي

    And who would blame me if I walked

    To Layla barefoot, even if my cheeks bled

  13. سأرتكب الخطير لوصل ليلى

    ولو كانت بغابات الأسود

    I would risk danger to reach Layla

    Even if she were in the lions' thickets

  14. وما لي دونها شغل ولكن

    تساويف الفتى من بيض وسود

    And I have no business but her

    The young man's adventures, good and bad

  15. وبئس المرء أصبح أسر سبع

    وهن فهن من بيض وسود

    And wretched is the man who wakes up

    Captive by a lioness, good and bad

  16. أخاطر لا تذاكر غير ناس

    لليلى وهو وافس بالعقود

    I take risks, I speak to no people

    But of Layla, and he is bound by pacts

  17. وإن كان أجل عمان عندي

    وأهليها وقلبك من شهودي

    And if the term of Oman is dear to me

    And its people, and your heart is my witness

  18. وما أزكى زكت عندي ولكن

    مقامي في قضا حاج مقيد

    And I have purified no purification more

    But my stand is to fulfill a bounded pilgrim's need

  19. حبيب وهو أحلى من حبيب

    قريب فهو أبغض من بعيد

    A lover, and he is sweeter than a lover

    Near, so he is more hateful than one far

  20. تأهب لا عدمتك في جمادي

    إذا ما كنت حلمي للمديد

    Prepare, may I not lose you in Jumada

    If you were my dream of longevity

  21. وإن تك أمك الخدراء عاص

    فلست لها بعاص أو عنيد

    And if your mother is disobedient

    I am not disobeying her or stubborn

  22. فمعذور وعرفني لعلي

    أحاول صحبة لأخ جديد

    So excuse me and you know me, maybe

    I will seek the company of a new friend

  23. إذا ما الماء عز على المصلي

    فمقض من تيمم بالصعيد

    If water is difficult for the praying one

    So fulfill from approximation on the ground

  24. فلست بنافذ في الأمر حداً

    ومجتهداً سوى الرجل الجليد

    So I cannot penetrate the matter, a limit

    And striving except the firm man

  25. يبيت الليل يرتقب الدراري

    بطرف إن سها الخالي سهيد

    He spends the night awaiting the visitors

    With an eye if the empty quarter slept

  26. مقامي في عمان أمر حلقي

    كأني شارب ماء الهنيد

    My stand in Oman, my words' concern

    Is as if I'm drinking Hend water

  27. لعاذلتي أقول حديث ليلى

    علي بكل آونة أعيدي

    To my flirt I say Layla's tale

    Repeated to me every so often

  28. وإن يك ذكر ليلى زاد عندي

    شجى بين المحنق والوريد

    And if the mention of Layla grows with me

    A burning between the throat and vein

  29. سلام اللَه يغشاها ومني

    ثناء بالروي في القصيد

    May Allah's peace cover her and from me

    Praise in poetry in the ode

  30. وتليمي يخص بني غريب

    على أحرارهم وعلى العبيد

    And give greetings on my behalf to Bani Gharib

    To their freemen and to the slaves

  31. ولا زال الثنا مني عليهم

    متى تسدي بهم حسن النشيد

    And praise still comes from me upon them

    When you grace them with the finest chant

  32. طروسك خاطر الزاكي أتتني

    كأن سطورها نظم الفريد

    Your messages reached the heart of the devotee

    As if their lines were the unique poem

  33. بنثر أبي نباتة والمعاني

    أياساً والنظام فمن عبيد

    In the prose of Abi Nabata and the meanings

    Despair and regulation thus from slaves

  34. يذكرني إليك ولست ناس

    ولكن طارفاً فوق التليد

    Mentioning me to you though I'm not people

    But a gentleness above the usual

  35. فقلت لمهجتي بالبين ذوبي

    وقلت لمقلتي بالشوق جودي

    So I said to my infatuation in separation melt

    And I said to my saying in longing give

  36. أليلتنا بالأمس عودي

    ليورق بعد يبس الغصن عودي

    Our night in past days return

    To leaf again after the branch dried my return

  37. تحية شائق الصافي عليكم

    وخدمة حمزة الولد الودود

    Greetings of the pure lover to you

    And service of Hamza the affectionate boy

  38. ومن عمر عليكم كل حين

    تحيتنا وجمعتنا الرشيد

    And from a lifetime to you always

    Our greetings and our assembly guided
