Can I hope to linger after my peers have departed,

when they have become captives beneath stone slabs and soil?

They are the caravan, gone swiftly, journeying on,

while we follow their tracks, seeking the caravan.

    فرحنا وتهدينا الفعال إلى الدرب

    Whenever they departed, we set out early, and they too went at dawn;

then we went on, our deeds guiding us to the road.

The herald of death will gather us in a barren waste,

far from family, wealth, and companions.

We shall pass among a people with no communion between them,

and none among them bears tidings to another—

dwelling in earth’s enclosures, away from lofty-built abodes,

with desolation for fellowship, and distance for nearness.

Hostages to burdensome sin—oh, how burdensome!

Woe to the one whom sin has shut fast.

O Lord, grant pardon; truly, I repent to You.

Show me forbearance, and forgive my sin, O my Lord.
