1. آها ولو نفعت من قال أوّاها

    كررتها ولعمري لم اقل واها

    Alas, if only my advice would benefit one who cried "Alas!"

    I would repeat it though by my life I never said "Woe!"

  2. نار الوغى والقرى بالأمس وارية

    وها هي اليوم حكم اللَه واراها

    The fires of turmoil burned the villages yesterday,

    Yet today, behold them - God's judgment has restored them.

  3. مات الأمير التي كانت مهابته

    جميع من وطئ الغبراء يخشاها

    The prince who all who trod the dust feared

    Has died - his might is gone that they dreaded.

  4. ومن مكارمه عمت وشيد بها

    بيت المعالي حتى احتل أعلاها

    Among his virtues which spread and were built upon

    Were the House of Glorious Deeds, raised to the summit.

  5. ومن سدوس به شاعت مفاخرها

    يوم المفاخر أولاها وأخراها

    From his integrity his merits proliferated

    On the day of merits, the first and last of them.

  6. قد كان أصدقها قولاً وأحسنها

    فعلاً وأرسبها عقلاً وأوفاها

    He was truest in word, finest in deed,

    Soundest in mind, and most faithful.

  7. أبو الحسين عليّ خير من فخرت

    على المطايا مطايا قد تمطاها

    Abu al-Husayn Ali was best of those

    Who paraded on steeds that raced them.

  8. إن كان مات فما ماتت مكارمه

    بيانها وجميل الذكر أحياها

    If he died, his virtues did not die -

    Their clarity and his memory's beauty revived them.

  9. بعامر عمر اللَه البلاد وقد

    أحيا العباد به لما تولاها

    With Umar living long, God has revived the land

    And its people through him since he assumed it.

  10. أمست عمير به في حفظ مؤتمن

    عن كل نائبة الأيام وقاها

    With him Umayr safeguards what is entrusted

    From every affliction of time and protects it.

  11. إن أعوزوا لنوال عمهم كرما

    أو حاذروا نوبا ما إن توقاها

    If they lack to gain his generous uncle's bounty

    Or fear his ire, he wards it off and averts it.

  12. لازال في العمر لقمان وأنسره

    في حفظ يس عما خاف أو طاها

    He remains in life Luqman, and most felicitous -

    Preserving Jesus from what he fears or veils him.

  13. ولا تزال بيوت الحمد قاصدة

    مني إليه ومن عاداه يقراها

    The houses of praise will ever be bound

    For me to him; from him who hates him he shields me.

  14. والحمد أفضل من مال سمحت به

    هيهات ما لاحمد والأموال أشباها

    Praise is superior to wealth dispensed generously -

    Never! Laudation and riches are not its equal.
