1. آها لها من غصة النادم

    موت علي ابن أبي القاسم

    Alas, what anguish for the remorseful,

    The death of Ali son of Abi al-Qasim

  2. آها وأحزانا وفقدا له

    وغير ما نكر على الحاكم

    Alas, our sorrows and loss of him

    And the blame upon the ruler

  3. نحن وان عمرن أعمارنا

    عمارها يعمر للهادم

    Though we may live out our lives

    Inhabiting them, for the destroyer they are built

  4. عامت بنا الآمال في لجة

    تعجز عنها حيلة العائم

    Hopes have carried us into a maelstrom

    Beyond the power of the swimmer

  5. آمالنا أزرت بأعمالنا

    حتى وقعنا موقع الواجم

    Our hopes were bound by our deeds

    Until we were in the place of the fallen

  6. نتيه في الدنيا بما زخرفت

    كتيهة المقتول بالصارم

    Wandering the world, deluded by its vanities

    Like one murdered by the sword

  7. ننام مسرورين في غبطة

    لم ندر ما عاقبة النائم

    We sleep content in false joy

    Not knowing the outcome for the sleeper

  8. لم نلزم الموجوب إلزامه

    إلزامنا ما ليس باللازم

    We neglected the compulsory as we should have done

    Our compulsion was for the unnecessary

  9. نرعى رياض اللهو في غفلة

    من قانص دون الرجا هاجم

    We shepherd the meadows of distraction heedlessly

    While the fateful moment draws near unseen

  10. نعمر مغرورين دار الفنا

    بهدم يوم آخر دائم

    In oblivion we build up the abode of extinction

    Whose demolition on the final day is certain

  11. ونجمع الأموال مغموسة

    تجميع مخبول بها غاشم

    And gather wealth dripping with sin

    A madman's hoard seized by the usurper

  12. وهادم اللذات يحدو بنا

    حدو حداة الظاعن الصارم

    While the destroyer of pleasures spurs us on

    With the goad of a piercing, piercing blade

  13. لو يعرف الإنسان مقداره

    ما تاه مخدوم على خادم

    If man but knew his worth

    He would not wander, a ruled serf of the ruled

  14. أشرافنا في الموت أو ضدها

    سيّان فيه قسمة القاسم

    Our leaders in death or against it are equal

    In the share dealt out by the divider

  15. بل كل سام سامك قدره

    يحمى به للقبر كالحائم

    Rather each person's lot is their measure

    Their provision for the grave, like beasts herded

  16. والموت لم يرحم كبيراً ولم

    يكن لذي الصبوة بالراحم

    And death has spared no elder, nor

    Was it gentle to the young man

  17. نرتاع للموت وأهواله

    ونزدهي إن غاب كالحلم

    We dread death and its horrors

    Yet pine if absent like a dream

  18. لا فرق إن فكرت ما بيننا

    وبين هذا البهم السائم

    No difference if you consider between us

    And this constant, dreary confusion

  19. فموت أهل الأرض طرا ومن

    فيها جميعاً موتة العالم

    For the death of all upon this earth, both

    The great and the forgotten, is the death of all

  20. من لا يرى أن التقى والنهى

    يذهب والعلم من العالم

    Who does not see that piety and restraint vanish

    And knowledge from the world-wise fades

  21. فهكذا لا شك إذهابه

    موت عليّ ابن أبي القاسم

    So too, undoubtedly, his passing

    Was the death of Ali son of Abi al-Qasim

  22. ذي ثلمة لا خير فيها ولا

    تنفع فيها لومة اللائم

    An unvirtuous wound from which no

    Reproach could draw any healing

  23. شمس عمان في الثرى نورها

    غاب فلم يوضح إلى شائم

    The sun of Oman in the earth, its light

    Has set and shines no more for the critic

  24. بحر الفتاوى غاض عن مده

    في عرض شبر طامس طاسم

    The sea of jurisprudence beyond its shore

    In a single cubit, turbid and silent

  25. بعد علي لم نجد عالما

    يفك رمز المشكل اللازم

    After Ali we found no scholar

    To elucidate the implicit meanings

  26. يستخرج المنصوص من أصله

    ويأخذ الموجود من عادم

    And extract what is present from the absent

    Take the understood from the understanding

  27. ويعلم الآي ومنسوخه

    والمفهم المحكوم للفاهم

    Know the verses and their abrogation

    And the wisdom of the Prophet's clan, the Hashimites

  28. ويعلم الاجماع من أهله

    وسنة الطهر الرضى الهاشم

    His knowledge, if depicted as an ocean, would not

    Be compassed by the efforts of any swimmer

  29. علماً فلو صور بحراً لما

    عامت عليه قدرة العائم

    With thought he unravels the most complex knot

    Split by the hands of the vile

  30. يقوض بالفكر على مشكل

    كسره من فعله الشايم

    Until religion was settled in its foundation

    And the oppressed empowered over the oppressor

  31. حتى أقر الدين في أصله

    وعز مظلوماً على الظالم

    He died, yet revived sciences that

    Had dwindled from scholar to scholar

  32. مات وقد أحيا العلوم التي

    عن عالم نصت إلى عالم

    Some he outlined in his books

    Others with the faithful compiler

  33. فبعضها في كتبه أرسمت

    والبعض عند الحامل الراسم

    For Ali ibn Abi al-Qasim

    Scholarship weeps with overflowing tears

  34. على علي بن أبي القاسم

    تبكي العلا بالمدمع الساجم

    And books and pens mourn the loss

    Of a sea, turbulent and bitter

  35. والكتب والأقلام تبكي أسى

    بحر وجد مسعر صارم

    If earth should conceal his complexion

    His memory remains unconcealed

  36. إن يكتمن عني الثرى لونه

    فذكره ما ليس بالكاتم

    His virtues broadcast among citizens

    Of homelands near and distant

  37. أخلاقه بالعلم منشورة

    لواطني الأوطان والقادمو

    His asceticism has preserved his life

    Like rain on smiling meadows

  38. وزهده أبقى حياة له

    كالغيث في زهر الربا الباسم

    And righteous, pure Zakiyya and his sons

    The steadfast fighter who remains

  39. وصالح الزاكي وأولاده

    وابنا أخيه المجاهد القائم

    They did not die though successors to him

    The bulwark of religion, replaced the missing

  40. ما مات من كانا عقيباً له

    هم عصمة الدين غنا العادم

    They are the pinnacle of creation, no human

    Since Adam until mankind's thread is cut

  41. هم ذروة الخلق فمن آدم

    حتى انقضى عمر بني آدم

    The season never neglects to remember him

    With praise, no blame, no fault

  42. لا برح الموسم من ذكره

    بالحمد لا لوم ولا لائم

    The sky rains generosity on Ali's tomb

    Every downpour and heavy fall

  43. جاد على قبر عليّ سما

    كل ملث وابل ساجم

    And God's mercy casts shade over it

    In his shrine and on the momentous day

  44. ورحمة الرحمن تغشاه في

    ضريحه والموقف الغائم

    The paradise of Firdaws is his dwelling

    Neighbors to the Hashimite Prophet

  45. وجنة الفردوس مأوى له

    مجاوراً للمصطفى الهاشم

    May Allah bless him, Lord of all people

    As long as the soft winds blow

  46. صلى عليه اللَه باري الورى

    ما دام يجري نسم الناسم
