هذا الفراق وهكذا التوديع

مما يقد به حشا وضلوع

This parting and thus this farewell

Of what fills the chest and ribs with pain

نجد اللهيب على متون خدودنا

عند الوداع وهن سلن دموع

We find the flames on the cheeks

When bidding farewell while they let fall tears

شملٌ تصدع عند باكرة النوى

لولا النوى ما كان فيه صدوع

A robe rends upon an early intention

Were it not for the intention there would be no rending

شيم الليالي هكذا بصروفها

يبلى الجديد ويفرق المجموع

The nights' wont is thus with its vicissitudes

The new wears out and the gathered separates

قد ترفع المخفوض جداً تارةً

منا وطوراً يخفض المرفوع

It may highly raise the abased sometimes

And lower the raised sometimes with its vicissitudes

كم مدقع تلقاه دهقانا وكم

دهقانها بصروفها مدفوع

How many well-known faces it makes gloomy

And their faces by its vicissitudes are gloomy

تلقى وضيع القوم في درج العلا

ورفيعها دون العلاء وضيع

You find the ignoble man at the height of glory

And its noble below glory, ignoble

وجائع والسمل منهم جامع

إلا وبالخطب المشتت ريعوا

A hungry man while the inept are collectors

Except by scattered news they gained glory

كنا بشهر الصوم ننجح عندنا

أن لا يلم بركنه تصديع

We were in the month of fasting successful with us

That no weakness undermines its pillar

أمسى غراب البين فينا ناعقاً

صوت الغراب مشتت ومريع

The raven of separation caws among us

The raven's call confuses and alarms

آهاً لها من وقفةٍ لوداعه

فكأنها حين أحين ذريع

Oh what a stance at his farewell

It is as if at the moment of farewell it is feeble

كم مقلةٍ شكرى عليه بدمعها

وحشا تذوب وآخر منجوع

How many tears of gratitude on it with its tears

Melting sorrow and the last of laments

هذا الفراق متى يكون لنا أبا

فطرٍ لقاك ونحن ثم جميع

When will this parting allow us, father

To meet you, and then we are all together

فرقتنا من بعد ما جمعتنا

بسواك لا يرجى به التجميع

It parted us after it united us

With none but you, reunion is not hoped for

فنهانا بك ما به سهو ولا

لغوٌ ونورك بالظلام يشوع

It forbade us, with you, frivolity and vain talk

Your light in the darkness gives light

محشوةٌ منك المساجد بالثنا

للَه حيث بك الثنا مرفوع

Filled with praise of you are the mosques

For God where praise of you is raised

وبك الملائكة الكرام بأرضنا

نزلت وهم بدعا الإله نزوع

And with you the noble angels on our land

Descended, and they are inclined to call on God

والليلة المقدور فيها فيك ما

للعام فيها الضر والمنفوع

And the predetermined night in which through you

Harm for the year and benefit

فكألف شهرٍ يا لها من ليلةٍ

ولها أتيح الفائز المسموع

As if a thousand months, oh what a night!

And the successful hearer has been allowed it

ولكم بك البركات تحدث عندنا

ما دمت فينا فالزمان ربيع

And through you blessings descend upon us

As long as you are among us, so time is spring

أنا نودعك العشية والحشا

فيها الأسى بعد الوداع وديع

I bid you farewell in the evening and sorrow

In it is grief after farewell, gentle

أنت الشفيع لنا فليت عليك يا

شهر الصيام عن الفراق شفيع

You are our intercessor so would that upon you, O

Month of fasting, be an intercessor for parting

شهر الصيام عليك ألف تحيةٍ

منا وحمد مذ رحلت يضوع

A thousand greetings from us to you, O

Month of fasting, since you departed, tender

اللَه نسأله رجوعك سالماً

فعن الذنوب إذا رجعت رجوع

We ask God for your safe return

And when you return, for sins, a return

وعسى الذنوب تفرقت كفراقكم

بكم وعنا ثقلها مضوع

And may sins disperse like your parting

Through you, and relieve us of its heaviness

عتقت رجال فيك من آصارها

فأظلهم بعد الجفاء ربيع

You freed men in you from its shackles

So shade them after harshness, tender

فهم أطاعوا اللَه إخلاصاً له

ولقد يرى حسن الجزاء مطيع

They obeyed God sincerely for Him

And he will see good reward, obedient

اللَه وفقها لحسن صيامه

وقيامه لا مغلثٌ وهجوع

May God grant it success in its good fast

And vigil - no confused or hungry one

ولرب صائمه وقائم ليله

إلا السهاد جزاؤه والجوع

For the Lord of its fasting and night vigil

Only sleepiness is its reward and hunger

يا ليت شعري كيف ما حالي وما

إني عليه موفق مطبوع

I wonder how is my state and what

I am granted success in imprinted

يا رب عفوك إن عفوك واسعٌ

إن الكريم لمن دعاه سميع

My Lord your pardon, pardoning is vast

The Generous answers the supplicant hearing

أدعوك دعوة خائفٍ راجي الرضى

بحماك ألجأ إنه لوسيع

I call you fearful hoping your pleasure

With your bounty I resort, it is vast

فاقبل صيامي لو أسأت فأنت يا

اللَه غفار الذنوب بديع

So accept my fasting though I did wrong, You O God

Forgiver of sins, are Innovator

وعلى رسولك صل فهو نبينا

أرجوه عندنا فهو لي فشفيع

And bless Your Messenger, he is our prophet

I hope in him for me he is intercessor
