يا ليت شعري بما ألقاه في حدثي

وفي معادي من مرقوم محترثي

Oh how I wish I knew what fate has ordained for me,

And what my future holds, as written by the Divine decree.

لئن نسيت فمحصي اللَه ما عملت

نفسي من خالص الأعمال والغلث

If I forget, God will take account of all I have done,

Saving me through deeds pure and worthless alike.

أسباب ذنبي متيناً قد اتصلت

أسباب صالحة الأعمال في رثث

The causes of my sins are firmly intertwined,

While the roots of righteous deeds lie frail and undermined.

أصبحت في خضرم الآمال تلعب بي

موج الأماني بلا دقل على رمث

In the bloom of hopes, my dreams play with me,

Like waves without anchors, adrift on barren sands.

فالويل إن لم من الرحمن سابقةً

لي السلامة تنجيني من الوعث

Woe to me, if the Merciful does not send me aid,

To grant me safety and save me from ruin.

يا حسرة عثرة ما إن يقال لها

لعاً وصفقة بيعٍ فاسد معث

Oh what regret that a misstep cannot be undone!

A faulty contract of loss and utter waste.

إن لم تجرني إلهي من مكارتها

من ذا يجير من الأهداف والكرث

If You do not save me from its trickery,

Who can offer refuge from aims and arrows gone astray?

تشبثت نيتي بالعفو منك فلا

تقطع رجائي ونياتي من الشبث

With all my will I cling to Your pardon,

So do not cut off my hopes and desires.

فاجعل رجائي إلهي غير منعكس

وحسن تحقيق ذنبي غير منتكث

Make my hopes face no rejection, God,

And realize my sins with no going back.

نفسي وإبليس والدنيا اكفني فهم

أعدى عدوي وهم روادة الخبث

Myself, Iblis and the world - protect me from them

For they are my bitterest foes, adept in every evil.

أحشاي من ملهم الآصار مفعمةً

وهن من فقدها الخيرات في غرث

My heart is full with inspirations from the Divine,

While those without them are left to wander in wilderness.

أجرني اللَه من حر الجحيم وار

زقني النعيم عناق الحور ذي الرعث

Save me God from Hellfire’s heat,

And grant me Heaven’s bliss, in the arms of maidens with braided hair.
