1. أيا أهل القبور فما جواب

    لمن ناداكمو أهل القبور

    O people of the graves, what is your response

    To the one who called you, O people of the graves

  2. تعوضتم بها عوض القصور

    وشتان القبور من القصور

    You have traded them for palaces

    And the graves are far from palaces

  3. فصار اللحد عن عوض السرير

    وفرش الترب عن فرش الحريرد

    The niche became instead of the bed

    And the earth's furnishings instead of silk

  4. وكيف جوابكم لما سئلتم

    إلى الملكين منكر أو نكير

    How will you respond when asked

    By the two angels, Munkar and Nakir

  5. وكيف لقيتمو فيها سروراً

    أأم لا قيتمو ضد السرور

    And how did you find joy in them

    Or did you not find the opposite of joy

  6. وهل جيرانكم أهل القبور

    يزوروا أم أسارى للنشور

    Are your neighbors, people of graves

    Visitors, or captives waiting for resurrection

  7. فيا لك وحشة عقبى أنيس

    ويا لك ذلة بعد العسير

    Oh what loneliness of a dear companion

    And what humiliation after luxury

  8. لنفخ الصور هم فيها همود

    رهائن للأحبة غير صور

    At the blowing of the horn, they are anxious

    Hostages to loved ones, without images

  9. وهم ما بين مأسور بذنب

    ومن هو مطلق غير الأسير

    Some shackled by sins

    Others set free without imprisonment

  10. وحكم اللَه ماضٍ في البرايا

    فما من ناقضٍ حكم القدير

    The judgment of God is enforced in the wild

    None can challenge the decree of the Almighty

  11. أنا بك يا إلهي مستجير

    فعفوٌ منك حامي المستجير

    I seek refuge in You, my God

    Forgiveness from You protects the seeker of refuge

  12. فإن عذبتني عدلاً بذنبي

    وإن تعفو فلطفاً من غفور

    If You punish me justly for my sins

    And if You pardon, it is grace from the Forgiving
