1. The division of the spoils, from Musa, scion of Ali,

    came to al-Muhanna in orderly sequence, in summary.

  2. Sixty shares are apportioned and distributed

    among their rightful recipients, according to God's decree, by every ruler.

  3. So forty, with eight following them,

    are the shares of those who built up Islam with spears.

  4. For the foot soldier, one share; the two shares, in their view,

    after careful inquiry, are the valiant horseman's portion.

  5. And for the orphans, according to the reckoning of their allotment,

    three shares; the wayfarers are given as many.

  6. And the needy have their portion, like the orphans;

    these, then, make nine in full.

  7. And of the sixty there remain, in their reckoning,

    three; examine their division and ask.

  8. For God, a share; and the Chosen One's kin have

    a share; and a share was held by the master of the messengers.

  9. The imam buys weapons with God's share,

    and likewise with Ahmad's share and the kin's.

  10. And of what remains, each has his share; and indeed

    our companions have disagreed, and judgment belongs to eternity.
