أَلا إِنما الآلات تكسر ميمها

إِذا ابتدأت والميم فيهن أَول

Behold, tools break their meem

When beginning with meem comes first

سوى ست آلات فيرفع ميمها

فدونكها معلومة ليس تجهل

Except six tools raise their meem

So remember them, do not be ignorant

مدق صليب مسعط ثم مدهن

ومُكحلة بل منخل ثم منصل

A peg, a broom, then a sieve

وأَما التي بالفتح والكسر ميمها

فمرقاة أَو مسقاة قوم تؤجل

فبالكسر آلات وبالفتح عندهم

على ما به أَفتوا مواضع تجعل

With kasra are tools, and with fatha

In places they put, as they decreed

وأَما الَّتي بالكسر ميم وعينه

إِذا قيل عند اللفظ في الوزن مفعل

And those whose meem and ain is kasra

فشيئان قالوا منحر ثم منتن

فدونك نظماً بَذَّ ما قال جَروَل
