1. الرزءُ أَفجع لو أَطلت بكائي

    والخطب أَوجع لو شققت حشائي

    The loss grieved me, had I prolonged my weeping,

    And the misfortunes pained me, had they ripped my intestines,

  2. من لائمي في لوعتي وتفجعي

    وتوجعي وترجعي وأَسائي

    To those blaming me for my agony, grief,

    And anguish, repentance, and evil,

  3. بصري وسمعي والفؤاد ومهجتي

    ذهب الجَميع وقد سلبت عَزائي

    My eyesight, hearing, heart and brain,

    They all left, after my solace was robbed,

  4. هذا هو النبأ الجليل في الث

    قلين والغبراء والخضراء

    This is the great news in the three lands,

    Qalhat, Al-Ghubra, and Al-Khadra,

  5. ما خُصّ فيها ناعب وقبيله

    من دون أدوا جملة الحمراء

    None were spared in them except for mourners and their tribes,

    Beyond those who paid their last respects to the Red,

  6. فالأَرض ترجف والعشار فعُطلت

    فيه وتطوى منه كل سماء

    The earth quakes, and the notables’ duties were disrupted,

    And every sky folded over it,

  7. وكأن اسرافيل قام مبادراً

    للصور ينفخ في فنا الأَحياء

    As if Israfil started, hastening,

    To blow the horn that ends all life,

  8. لا قلب إِلا في لظاه مقلب

    لا مقلة إِلا بكت بدماء

    There is no heart except tossed in agonizing pain,

    No eyelid except that it cried blood,

  9. وكأن أَملاك السموات العلا

    قامت به في محشد العزّاء

    As if the angels of the Highest Heavens,

    Stood mourning over it in throngs of grievers,

  10. يا ثلمة وقعت ولا جبر لها

    كتجبّر الأَعضاء بالأَعضاء

    O breach that befell with no mending it,

    Like the arrogance of limbs over other limbs,

  11. من سره أَن المكارم والتقى

    والعلم يذهب عن أَذى الدنياء

    Whoever’s joy was that merits and piety,

    And knowledge disappear from the harm of riffraff,

  12. فلينعمن فهكذا إذهابه

    تحت الثرى من دولة وثراء

    Then let him delight, for this is how its disappearance was,

    Below the soil from a state and wealth,

  13. عجباً لطول ثلاثة من أَذرع

    قبراً وعرض الشبر في الحصباء

    Wondrous is the length of the three cubits,

    A grave whose width is a cubit in pebbles,

  14. وسع التقى والعلم طُرّاً والحجى

    والمكرمات وجوهر العلياء

    It contained piety, knowledge, erudition and wisdom,

    And noble deeds, essence of the highborn,

  15. يا بقعة ضمت فضائل أحمد

    في أحمد عن سائر الدقعاء

    O spot that combined Ahmed’s merits,

    Beyond all other spots in existence,

  16. فلك الفخار على البقاع كمثله

    في العجم والعرب الذري العرباء

    To you belongs the pride over places like it,

    Among non-Arabs and pure-blooded Arabs,

  17. هو بيضة الاسلام بل هو حَيَّةُ ال

    وادي وقطب جماهر العلماء

    It was the egg of Islam, no, it was the serpent of the valley,

    And the polestar of the scholars’ throng,

  18. أَمسى وأَصبح في الضريح وما درى

    ما حل في صبح بنا ومساء

    It became eve and morn in the tomb, unaware,

    Of what befell us in morn and eve,

  19. كان الهدى بعمان ثمت أَصبحت

    من بعده في حندس الظلماء

    Guidance was in Oman, then after him, it became,

    In the darkness of ignorance,

  20. وبه لقد كانت على رغم العدا

    مياسة كالغارة الغيداء

    And through him, despite the enemies,

    Mascat shone like the Ghadira oasis,

  21. سلابة بجمالها وخلالها

    تختال في برد من العصراء

    Sulaba with its beauty and merits,

    Strutting in a cloak of silk,

  22. مذ كان ساتر بشرها بردا النهى

    وجمالها بخلالها الحسناء

    Since he was its protector with the cloak of prohibition,

    And its beauty with its graceful merits,

  23. حتى قضى نحبا فها هي أَصبحت

    كالحيزبون الشوهة الغبراء

    Until he passed away grievously, and now it has become,

    Like worn out rags, covered in dust,

  24. تبكي وتعلن بالصراخ لفقده

    وتقول با ويلاه بيح حمائي

    Crying and shouting loudly for its loss,

    And saying: Oh woe is me, alas my protector!

  25. لا مانع عني ولا ذو حشمة

    من بعد أحمد ساتر عورائي

    None can defend me, and none has decency,

    After Ahmed, who concealed my flaws,

  26. يا أحمد يا إبن مداد الرضى

    هل أَنت تسمع إِن دَعوت دعائي

    Oh Ahmed, O Ibn Midad's solace,

    Can you hear if I call out my plea?

  27. أَوأَنت ترثي للذي حزناً بكى

    وأَسى عليك بلوعة البرحاء

    Or are you grieving for one who cried sorrowfully,

    And agonized over you in desolation?

  28. أَبكي عليك وقد بكت قبلي العلا

    والمكرمات بمقلة وطفاء

    I cry over you, and before me the High Heavens cried,

    And noble deeds with tearing and lamentation,

  29. والكتب باكية عليك لأنها

    رزئت لفقدك أَعظم الأَرزاء

    And books crying over you, for they,

    Were pained by your loss, greatest of pains,

  30. وكأنها المفراق بعدك أَردفت

    أَثر الزفير ترزم الثكلاء

    As if after you they were orphaned,

    Following the sigh, sewing the bereaved,

  31. وكأنها من طول ما ولهت أَسى

    فقدت لفقدك جملة الأَكفاء

    As if from prolonged despair for losing you,

    They lost in you all competent peers,

  32. وبكى اليراع عليك وهو أحق من

    يبكي عليك بخلوة وملاء

    And the pulpit cried over you, for it is most deserving,

    To cry over you in seclusion and openness,

  33. فلطالما أَجريته وحررته

    بمحامد الأَفعال والأَسماء

    And mosques, prayer niches, schools and higher seminaries cried,

    And grants of the Benefactor,

  34. ولطالما أَقضيته فقضى بما

    أَقضيت عنك بنائل وقضاء

    And delegations whose night you spent,

    Racing the mounts in a dark night,

  35. قد كانَ مثل حديد عزمك في المضا

    وأَخا حسامك في قضى ومضاء

    O Kaaba of visitors, no, O direction of worshippers,

    No, O granary of the eloquent,

  36. كم جدل الفصحاء عند جدالها

    مستغنياً طبعاً عن الاملاء

    Who can we follow for our faith,

    And every method of praise?

  37. وبكت عليك محابر ومنابر

    فقدت لفقدك منطق الخطباء

    Who can solve problems if they confound,

    Or drive away the rigid tribulation?

  38. وبكت عليك مساجد ومحاشد

    ومدارس ومعارس النعماء

    Who can we ask after your death,

    About the principles of religion in God's Oneness,

  39. وبكت عليك وفود حيّ عادها

    من كفك الوهاب قرض عطاء

    Or about secondary rulings and their principles,

    Or ruling principles and their origins?

  40. وبكت عليك ضيوف ليل أَقبلت

    تزجي المطي بليلة ليلاء

    In religious edicts, below you were Hashim,

    And Abu Muhajir, or Abu Shu'atha,

  41. يا كعبة الوفاد بل يا قبلة ال

    عُباد بل يا مدرة الفصحاء

    So if asked about issues, you had no,

    Perplexity in answering them,

  42. من ذا خلافك نهتديه لديننا

    ولكل محمدة من الآراء

    You issued edicts about the Creator and His Gabriel,

    And the Prophet and his prominent companions,

  43. من ذا يحل مسائلاً إِن عوصت

    أَو من لدفع المحنة العوصاء

    As if you witnessed the revelation,

    When news was revealed from the Heavens,

  44. من ذا نسائل بعد موتك عن أصو

    ل الدين في توحيد ذي الآلاء

    You were the beloved of every petitioner, and every,

    Hopeful desirous of generous affection,

  45. أَو في الفُروع وفي أَصول الفرع أَو

    أَصل الفروع وَأَصلها المتناء

    The gardens of Paradise call you, and your dwelling,

    Where you settled in the Abode of Eternity,

  46. قد كان في الفتياء دونك هاشم

    وأَبو المهاجر أَو أَبو الشعثاء

    And you will intercede on Judgement Day,

    Since you were the best substitutes when alive,

  47. فإِذا سئلت عن المسائل لم تكن

    ذا حيرة عن ردها لكاء

    If lasting were through good deeds for their doer,

    You would have lasted for all time,

  48. تفتي عن الباري وعن جبريله

    وعن النبي وصحبه النجباء

    But the Master chose lasting for Himself,

    And all people were created to perish,

  49. نصا كأنك كنت فيه مشاهدا

    للوحي عند تنزل الأَنباء

    If man knew the value of his worth,

    The Master would not pride over the owned,

  50. كنت الحبا ولكل مستفت وكل

    ل مؤمل راج جزيل حباء

    That strayed in its course from it to barrenness,

    It did not settle in shade except for as long as,

  51. ناديك روضات الجنان ومنزل

    فيه نزلت بجنة المأواء

    It fulfilled its purpose from offerings,

    Curse upon he who takes pride in it,

  52. ولأنت في يوم المعاد مشفع

    مذ كنت حيا سيد البدلاء

    And hopes for wishes and desires from it,

    In it, luxury with its misery is disturbed,

  53. ولو أن بالفعل الجميل لفاعل

    يقع البقاء بقيت طول بقاء

    And relaxation certainly alternates with misery,

    It only bestows then steals, and if it laughs,

  54. لكنما اختار البقاء لنفسه ال

    مولى وكل الخلق خلق بلاء

    It then laments with weeping,

    We in it are like cattle, grazing,

  55. لو يعرف الإنسان قيمة قدره

    لم يفخر المولى على المولاء

    While it is like a singing meadow,

    Death and hopes, this is the herder,

  56. ها نحن والدُنيا كركب أَيغلت

    في منهج منها إِلى الاحراء

    And it is the ropes, and we are like sheep,

    And I see it as a gate we must enter,

  57. ما عرست بالظل إِلا ريثما

    تقضي لبانتها من الأَفياء

    Our nobles in death are like the lowly,

    Most honored are those who hastened,

  58. تبا لذي الدنيا ومفتخر بها

    وبآمل منها منال مناء

    To bury him and wash him with water,

    Loss is not the same for all people,

  59. فيها النعيم ببؤسها متكدر

    ولقد تعاقب راحة بشقاء

    But it is an exception,

    O you who populated the barrens,

  60. ما أَوهبت إِلا وقد سلبت وما

    إِن أَضحكت إِلا ثنت ببكاء

    That the dwellings of the living were ruined by them,

    Death of villages and death of those in them, but not,

  61. ولنحن فيها كالبهائم رُتعا

    نرعى وهن كروضة غناء

    Death of one singular scholar,

    Is this farewell, will we meet after it?

  62. والموت والآمال هذا قانص

    وهي الحبال ونحن مثل الشاء

    I fear its opposite of meeting,

    Most dear that before loss befell you, we would have,

  63. وأراه باباً كلنا ولاجه

    أَشرافنا في الموت كالضعفاء

    Ransomed you with our souls and children,

    Wondrous is the bearer of his bier and his bier,

  64. فأَجل قدراً عندنا من أَسرعوا

    في دفنه ولغسله بالماء

    Like the carriers of a bier in the sky’s loftiness,

    And he is mighty to be carried from shoulder,

  65. والفقد ليس على الجَميع من الوَرى

    لكنه في حرف الاستثناء

    To shoulder in a simple litter,

    O you who buried him, his grave’s enclosure,

  66. يا عامراً للقاسطين نواديا

    خربت بهن نوادي الأحياء

    Contains seclusion like Jawza Valley,

    I wish his grave had been in my eyelids,

  67. موت البلار وموت من فيها ولا

    موت امرئ فرد من الفقهاء

    Shrouded by their weeping lids,

    To the Most Merciful’s mercy his soul found rest,

  68. هذا الفراق فهل تلاق بعده

    إِني لقى منه خلاف لقاء

    Embracing the houris in the Most High,

    It left, rested, departed or migrated,

  69. وأعز لو قبل الردى فيك الفدا

    بنفوسنا نفديك والأَبناء

    With his soil every cloud and drizzle,

    Like the swiveling of stars over his grave,

  70. عجباً لحامل نعشه ولنعشه

    كبنات نعش في سمو سماء

    Alternating like the seasons,

    Watering graves around it by its side,

  71. وهو العظيم بأن يناقل منكب

    عن منكب في آلة حدباء

    The lanterns revived by a voice of life,

    We have in Midad's solace and its crafting,

  72. يا قابريه إِن لحد ضريحه

    حمل العزالة منزل الجوزاء

    Abdullah Al-Khatib, Hassan's hope,

    One who died but had successors,

  73. بل ليت كان ضريحه في مقلتي

    ومكفنا بجفونها الجفناء

    In what he was to his successors, is not dead,

    They are two generations of wisdom and erudition,

  74. ولرحمة الرحمن راحت روحه

    في عليين معانق الحوراء

    And two seas of generosity and religious decree,

    Bearing the caliphate’s burden,

  75. وسرت وراحت أَو غدت أَو هجرت

    بثراه كل سحابة وطفاء

    And the most honorable of noble deeds,

    Midad Abdullah, Ahmad’s two sons,

  76. كنواله هتانها بضريحه

    يتعاقب الأَنواء كالأَنواء

    Pinnacles of the highborn,

    Take your father’s place in all that,

  77. وسقت قبوراً حوله بجواره

    أَحيا به النوار صوت حياء

    He undertook of matters,

    And your forefathers’ achievements do not evade you,

  78. ولنا بمداد الرضى وصنوه

    عبد الاله الحبر حسن رجاء

    For praise is the path of ancestral achievements,

    You are the children of Midad, a secret,

  79. ما مات من كانا له خلفا على

    ما كانَ فيه لموضع الخلفاء

    Of God in ease and adversity,

    And God clothed you in the garment of nobility,

  80. فهما هما جيلا حجىً وهما هما

    بحران في كرم وفي فتياء

    An inheritance from fathers to sons,

    If one who was an exemplar among you dies,

  81. متحملين من الخلافة ثقلها

    ومن المكارم أَشرف الأَعباء

    Another exemplar arises to lead,

    Like stars: if one hides, another,

  82. مداد عبداللَه إِبني أَحمد

    سروات ناعب ذروة العلياء

    Brighter star appears to the beholder,

    You are the epoch’s mind, hearing, and eyes,

  83. قوما مقام أَبيكما في كل ما

    قد كانَ قام به من الأَشياء

    And the rest of people are like limbs,

  84. وَمآثر الآباء لا تعدوكما

    فالحمد نهج مآثر الآباء

  85. أَنتُم بنو مداد سر كامن

    لِلّه في السراء والضراء

  86. واللَه أَلبسكم لباس مكارم

    إرثاً لآباء على الأَبناء

  87. إِن ماتَ منكم قدوة بمكانه

    قد قامَ قدوة قادة قدماء

  88. مثل الكواكب إِن تغيب كوكب

    إِلا وَأَوضح كوكب للراء

  89. عقل الزمان وسمعه وعيونه

    أَنتم وباقي الناس كالأَعضاء
