1. حُسنُ العزاء لكم كحسن عزاء

    في الدرة المكنونة الخدراء

    The consolation for you is as good as the consolation

    In the precious pearl, the sleepy pearl

  2. كانت بقايا نسوة طائية

    أَحيت مكارمها الجواد الطائي

    Remnants of nomadic women were

    Who revived their generosity, the generous nomad

  3. أَم المساكين التي من مالها

    يتمولون صعالك الضعفاء

    Mother of the poor, who from her wealth

    The helpless weaklings are given livelihood

  4. داء المنية ما له لو أَنها

    وقعت بهرمس من علاج دواء

    The disease of death, if only it

    Had befallen the ruins, it would have been cured

  5. وإِذا الفتى لقي المنية وحده

    ترك العويل بجملة الخلطاء

    And when the young man faces death alone

    He leaves the wailing to the mixed multitude

  6. لا يرجع الميت الدفين بقبره

    لهف ولا يجديك طول بكاء

    The buried dead does not come back to life

    Yearning, nor does prolonged crying benefit you

  7. سبحان من جعل البقاء له وقد

    جعل الأَنام الخلق كل فناء

    Glory to Him who made eternity His own, and yet

    Made all people subject to total annihilation

  8. موت الغني أَخي الثراء وإِن علا

    إِلا وجدك موتة الفقراء

    Death of the wealthy is loss of riches, even if exalted

    Except you find the death of the poor

  9. لا يرحم الموت الصغير لصغره

    أَبداً ولا يعفو عن الزمناء

    Death does not pity the young for his youth

    Never, nor forgives the elderly

  10. كأس به شرب الهزبر من الردى

    تسقاه أَم القشعم الشعواء

    A cup, from which the old man drank destruction

    Is made to drink by mother of the talkative lad

  11. عجباً يعزي ميتاً في ميتٍ

    ميت فقيد الابن والآباء

    Strange! One consoles the dead with a dead person

    The dead, bereft of son and forefathers

  12. لا زالَ عمرك باقياً يا أحمد

    في عزة وسعادة وعلاء

    May your life remain eternal, O Ahmed

    In glory, happiness and loftiness

  13. وبنوك عاشوا عيشة بذراك لا

    يخشون وقع حوادث الدنياء

    And may your sons live a life, thanks to you, they

    Fear not the occurrence of worldly misfortunes
