1. هذي المنازل ها هيه

    أمست يباباً واهيه

    These are the dwellings, now they are desolate,

    Once lush, now withered and faded,

  2. متنكراتٍ دورها

    فكأنها هي ماهيه

    Disguised are their homes,

    As if they were never themselves,

  3. ولقد وقفت بها ولي

    عين عليهاماهيه

    And I once stood in them when they

    Were as they should be,

  4. ولقد سألت طلولها

    عن آهليها الماضيه

    And I asked these ruins

    About their erstwhile inhabitants,

  5. ومن المحال بأن ترد

    لي الطلول جوابيه

    It is impossible that ruins

    Could give me any answers,

  6. أين الذين عهدتهم

    فيها بطيب رفاهيه

    Where are those I once knew

    Their clubs were filled with them

  7. كانت نواديهم بهم

    بالأريحية ناديه

    Discussing lofty thoughts,

    Their tents were like white clouds

  8. وكأنما أقبابهم

    بيض السحايب آضيه

    Spread out,

    Their spears erect

  9. ورماحهم مركوزةً

    أمم الجياد العاديه

    Like the steeds of flowing manes,

    Then the shepherds called out

  10. فإذا الرعاة تنادبت

    خلف الهجام الضاويه

    Behind the raging torrents,

    And the horses turned to ghosts

  11. والخيل قد صارت شما

    طيطاً بتلك الغازيه

    In those abandoned places,

    You see them above the sands

  12. فتراهم فوق الجيا

    د كأسد بيشةٍ ضاريه

    Like lions in the hunt,

    Veiled and covered

  13. متقنعين معافراً

    متقمصين الماديه

    Clothed in mourning,

    Clutching the bonds

  14. متمسكين ذوابلاً

    متقلدين الماضيه

    Of days gone by,

    The people of politics, nobility

  15. أهل السياسة والفرو

    سة والروس العاتيه

    and raiding tribes,

    The people of glory, armies

  16. أهل المآثر والعسا

    كر والجيوش اللاويه

    and formidable forces,

    Their armies and lofty citadels

  17. لم تحمهم تلك العسا

    كر والحصون العاليه

    could not protect them,

    Hearts forgot ambition

  18. سهت القلوب عن المنو

    ن وما المنون بساهيه

    and death spares no one,

    The shadow of death descended

  19. نزلت بهم ريب المنو

    ن وما المنجنون الداهيه

    Upon them, none can escape it,

    I went to a house, all its inhabitants

  20. قصدت بهم داراً أوا

    هلها عظام باليها

    were naught but dry bones,

    No visitor comes by

  21. لا زائر فيها يزو

    ر ولا يجيب مناديه

    or answers a caller,

    After people, only an empty house remains,

  22. قد أوحشوا بعد الأني

    س بسكن دارٍ خاليه

    They were transformed from nobility

    to vagabonds with staffs,

  23. وتبدلوا بعد الحري

    ر بجندل متارسيه

    The worms scatter the bones

    of the slender-waisted,

  24. فالدود ينثر بالخدو

    د على القدود النازيه

    Had you met them just nights ago,

    You’d veil your face from them,

  25. لو شمتهم عقبى ثلا

    ث من ليالٍ ماضيه

    And refuse to recognize faces

    That once shone with beauty,

  26. لسترت وجهك عنهم

    ستر الفتاة الغانيه

    Now they are bones in their graves,

    With grieving hearts,

  27. ونكرت منهم أوجهاً

    بالحسن كانت زاهيه

    Awaiting the first blow of the trumpet,

    and then the second,

  28. وهم هوامدٌ في القبو

    ر لهم قلوب صاديه

    Ah, that blow which will gather

    together fallen bodies,

  29. يترقبون النفخة ال

    أولى وأخرى ثانيه

    And reveal their hidden secrets,

    In it will fly the centuries

  30. آهاً لها من نفخةٍ

    جمعت جسوماً باليه

    and bygone eras,

    The fortunate will succeed by it

  31. وبها لقد كشفت لها

    منها سرائر خافيه

    and go to lofty castles,

    Amidst flowing rivers

  32. وتطايرت فيها القطو

    ط أيامناً وشماليه

    by the gardens of Eden,

    And wide-eyed maidens

  33. فاز السعيد بها فصا

    ر إلى القصور العاليه

    like radiant moons,

    Amid couches and carpets

  34. ما بين أنهارٍ لدى

    جنات عدنٍ جاريه

    and clear yards,

    Its fruits are for the saints

  35. ووصائف مثل الشمو

    س تزف حوراً غانيه

    who worshipped in truth,

    Where angels visit them,

  36. بين الأسرة والنما

    رق والزرابي الصافيه

    greeting their friends,

    Such is their reward for days

  37. وقطوفها للأوليا

    ء على الحقيقة دانيه

    now long past,

    But the wretch, it will cast him

  38. وترى الملائكة الكرا

    م لهم تزور مواليه

    into the pit,

    With fiery flames,

  39. هذا الجزاء لهم لأي

    يام سوالف خاليه

    and fierce guardians,

    It takes him to its deepest bottom,

  40. أما الشقي بها فتسبق

    لأمه هي هاويه

    where he will cry:

    "Woe to me! Would that

  41. واللَه بينهما له

    إذ قال نار حاميه

    I had not lived and died poor,

    Would that death had taken me

  42. يهوي بأقصى قعرها

    وموكلاً بزبانيه

    before my appointed time,

    Then I'd not be given my record

  43. قال الشقي بها وقد

    سحبته فيها العاتيه

    in my left hand,

    Nor face the pain of reckoning,

  44. يا ليته عني أغ

    نى في حياتي ماليه

    If only I knew I'd return

    after the end of my life,

  45. أو ليته أهلك من

    قبل القضا سلطانيه

    I'd ready myself for the moment

    of my death."

  46. فلعلني لم أعط يو

    ماً بالشمال كتابيه

    The wretch said, as they dragged him into it:

    "Woe to you wicked ones in degradation!

  47. أو لا ألاقي ما ألا

    قي من عذاب حسابيه

    In it you have but scorching flames!"

    And the bites of serpents

  48. أو أنني من أن أكا

    بد من أليم عذابيه

    like lofty palm trees,

    And scorpions like camels,

  49. يا مالك هل رجعةً

    بعد انقضا لحياتيه

    and birds of prey,

    "This is the abode which you were promised endless!

  50. فلعلني أتأهب ال

    حسنى لوقع مماتيه

    Not like your first home which perished!

    O Lord, I repent all my sins,

  51. قال اخسأوا فيها ووي

    لكم عصاةً خاسيه

    And to you I repent my disobedience,

    My hope in you is salvation,

  52. ما حظكم فيها سوى

    لفح الجحيم الحاميه

    so fulfill my wish,

    Forgive my past sins,

  53. ونواهش الحيات أم

    ثال النخيل الساميه

    my intentional and mistaken ones,

    And guide me to your acceptance,

  54. وعقارب مثل البغا

    ل وكالنسور الهاويه

    make your forgiveness my provision,

    I call onto you O Lord, so listen

  55. هذي هي الدار التي

    أوعدتموها باقيه

    and answer my call,

    Lighten my burden,

  56. ليست كداركم التي

    خلفتموها فانيه

    and grant me well-being,

    And make my path safe

  57. يا رب عفوك إنني

    قد تبت من آصاريه

    wherever I may wander,

    Be it sea or barren desert,

  58. وإليك إني تبت من

    ذنبي ومن عصيانيه

    O Lord, you know my inner secrets,

    In Muscat though my body resides

  59. ورجاي فيك هو المنى

    حقق لديك رجائيه

    my wings are folded,

    I have no true friend here,

  60. فاغفر ذنوبي الماضيا

    ت تعمدي وخطائيه

    though we dwell in the same place,

    I have but an afflicted heart,

  61. وإلى رضاك فاهدني

    واجعل متابك زاديه

    that has abandoned blissful sleep,

    Distant from family, friends or homeland,

  62. أدعوك يا رباه فاس

    مع واستجب لدعائيه

    To you I complain, and plaints

    are fitting for the noble,

  63. سهل علي مشقتي

    وامنن علي بعافيه

    So choose for me, O God, what

    you wish for me and my comrades,

  64. واجعل طريقي آمناً

    فيها أجر ردائيه

    And guide us rightly on the path,

    O Lord, make it easy,

  65. مهما ركبت البحر أو

    كور القلاص الناجيه

    And bless me quickly with facilitation,

    my God,

  66. يا رب أنت بي العلي

    م وما أسر فؤاديه

    And bless Muhammad most virtuous

    of prayers,

  67. في مسقط قد صار مك

    سور العظام جناحيه

    And all the prophets and their offspring,

    one after the other,

  68. ما لي بها أبداً صدي

    ق نازل بالناحيه

    However much the sand grouse called

    no welcome answers came."

  69. لي مقلةٌ مطروقةٌ

    عافت لذيذ مناميه

  70. ناءٍ عن الأهل وال

    أصحاب أو أوطانيه

  71. فإليك أشكو والشكا

    ية للكريم موافيه

  72. فاختر لي اللهم ما

    ترضاه لي وصحابيه

  73. ولمكة حدد لنا

    نهج الطريق العافيه

  74. وامنن علي بعاجل التس

    هيل منك إلهيه

  75. وعلى النبي محمد

    أزكى الصلاة الزاكيه

  76. وعلى جميع الأنبيا

    ء وآله المتواليه

  77. ما رنحت عذبات با

    نات قبولٍ ساريه
