1. عزاء فما كل حي بباق

    ولا عن لحاق الردى من إباق

    Consolation, for not every living lasts

    Nor escapes the doom of annihilation

  2. فسابق متى شئت إن المنايا

    لأخذة في بداء السباق

    Whoever hurries, death takes away

    At the start of the race

  3. وكل ابن حوا وإن طال عمرا

    مصاد المنى بثني الرباق

    Each son of eve, however long his life

    Is destined for death's thrust

  4. فنفس العزيز ونفس الذليل

    مقدرة للردى في سباق

    The soul of the mighty and the lowly

    Are destined for doom in the race

  5. يموت المحل بسفح الحضي

    ض موتة من للسماكين راق

    In the valley's lap, death takes alike

    The fisherman and the elite

  6. ومن راكب نعله للمنايا

    كمن راكب ثم ظهر البراق

    He whose shoes death wears

    Is like one who rides the buraq

  7. وموت القشاعم فوق الهوى

    كموت الخرانق تحت النفاق

    Death of the honored and the disgraced

    Is like death of the hypocrites

  8. وأفعى المنايا لها لسعة

    فليس لها من طبيب وراق

    The serpent of death has a sting

    With no healing doctor or potion

  9. عجبت لباك على غيره

    بدمع على خده غير راق

    Strange is one who weeps over another

    With tears not worthy of flowing

  10. وحق على روحه واجب

    يبكي ويبكي قبيل الفراق

    He owes it to himself and is obliged

    To weep and weep before parting

  11. وما كل من مات حر فقيد

    ولا كل خيل مذاك عتاق

    Not all who died were missed

    Nor were all horses gifted freedom

  12. فما الفقد إِلا ذهاب كريم

    بأمواله عن طحا العرض واق

    Loss is but a generous soul's departure

    From the abode of dignity and glory

  13. كعبد الاله الفتى الأغبري

    فتى خلف ذي الأَيادي البواقي

    Like Abdullah Al-Aghbari, the youth

    Master of lasting generosity

  14. أخي الجفنات الغرار الجوابي

    ورب القدور الرواسي السماق

    My brother of piercing eyes and ready wit

    Lord of cauldrons and butter churns

  15. ترى الوفد فوضا على بابه

    فهذا يمان وهذا عراقي

    Caravans gather at his door

    Some from Yemen, others from Iraq

  16. شكا ماله الجور منه عليه

    كما منه تشكو كماة التلاقي

    They complain of his justice upon them

    As swirling stars complain of their cycle

  17. تحن يداه لبذل الأيادي

    على سائليه حنين النياق

    His hands extend in generosity

    Like the nimble hands of a baker

  18. إذا ليلة من ليالي جمادى

    بها جمد الماء والمزن ساق

    In a night of Jamadi, when water froze

    And downpours ceased

  19. تهب الشمال بها حرحفا

    فتنسف بالبيت أصل الرواق

    The north wind blows fiercely

    Uprooting the mansion's pillars

  20. تبيت تأجج نيرانه

    لسار تضيء وضيف مساق

    Stoked fires blaze

    Lighting up guests who visit by night

  21. إِذا نزل اللحز أرضا خفاقا

    أَبى أَن يحل بأرض خفاق

    When misfortune descended ferociously

    It refused to settle on the honorable

  22. على كل خلق له نعمة

    وفي العار ليس له من خلاق

    To all people He has blessed

    But the disgraced have no share

  23. رزين السجايا سني العطايا

    كشوف البلايا عن المستضاق

    Of easy nature and generous gifts

    Relieving the deserving of hardship

  24. وهضبة حلم تلوذ الليالي

    حمول لأثقال فوق المطاق

    A forbearance that nights seek refuge in

    Bearing heavy burdens steadily

  25. ولو بالمكارم يبقى كريم

    بقى لاك ما كل حر بباق

    Had he lived, his generosity would have remained

    For not every free soul survives

  26. أبدر عمان حسبناك لا

    يواقع نورك وقع المحاق

    Farewell Oman, we deemed you eternal

    Your light beyond extinction

  27. فراقك يا سيدي عندنا

    فقد صح حتام وقت التلاق

    Your parting, my master, leaves us

    In sorrow, anguish and grief

  28. يقولون أقفرن منك العقود

    لقد أقفرت منك كل الأفاق

    They say we are deserted without you

    All horizons are emptied of you

  29. فأهل عمان هم ضيعة

    خلافك عنها فما من متاق

    Oman's people are now lost

    Without you, there is no refuge

  30. فمن للوفود وللأرملات

    ومن للضيوف ومن للرفاق

    Who now shall care for the caravans, widows

    Guests and friends?

  31. ومن للصديق إذا ما أتى

    صديقاً يطالب مهر الصداق

    Who shall the friend find

    When seeking the bond of friendship?

  32. رحلت كأمس بلا رجعة

    ولا لك من بعدها من فواق

    You left never to return

    No solace left beyond

  33. تركت قلوب جميع الورى

    على أسف وأسى واحتراق

    You left the hearts of all mankind

    In grief, sorrow and burning pain

  34. ونور أناسي أعيانها

    جرت جري أعينها في المآق

    The light of their eyes wept

    Down cheeks coursing without cease

  35. ويبكي عليك الندى والعلا

    بدمع على الخد هام مراق

    Tearful regrets weep over you

    Hopes once placed in you now broken

  36. ويبكي عليك صحيح الرجا

    وآمال قوم عليك مناق

    Without you, grief unites

    While weeping remains our common solace

  37. خلافك أما العزا في اختلاف

    عليك وأما البكا في اتفاق

    What can tears compensate

    Besides heartache and strangulation?

  38. وماذا يعوض فيك البكا

    سوى غصة أو شجي بالخناق

    Your body lies under earth

    While praise of you remains on people's tongues

  39. فجسمك في طبقات الثرى

    وحمدك في ألسن الناس باق

    Your legacy encompasses all people

    Your honor bright as the radiant sun

  40. وسيبك قد عم أهل الزمان

    وعرضك كالشمس وضاح لاق

    Your grave was watered from the rain clouds

    Down the valleys and streams

  41. سقى قبرك الغيث نهلا وعلا

    من الساريات الغوادي السواقي

    May your family be consoled

    For the days you left them embittered

  42. أعزيكم يا بني أشعث

    بمن ترك الدهر بالحزن شاق

    My own pain is like strangulation

    Tightening more with each breath

  43. وعندي شجي بالمخنق منه

    عليه كثيف يغص التراقي

    I accept the decree of fate

    And what my destiny holds

  44. وإني لراض بحكم القضا

    ومما يلاقي سجيري ألاقي

    You rode ahead of us before

    While we follow behind

  45. فركب تقدم من قبلنا

    ونحن على إثرهم في اللحاق

    We saw them race towards doom

    And we race next in line

  46. رأيناهم في سباق الردى

    ونحن سباق قطار السباق

    No wise soul trails after them

    Dwelling in grace and dignity

  47. فما عاقل سر من بعدهم

    بحسن مقام وطيب عناق

    O ignorant one, it is time to depart

    Have you prepared provisions?

  48. أيا أيها الغر حان الرحيل

    فهل لك زاد لهذا الوفاق

    Would you journey without provisions

    To an abode of barren wilderness?

  49. أترضى تسافر من غير زاد

    لدار مع السفر ناء سحاق

    Take provisions of piety, my brother

    And be ready before the time comes

  50. تزود أخي بزاد التقى

    وكن نافذ المهر قبل الطلاق

    May God bless Ahmad

    With ceaseless blessings

  51. وصلى الاله على أحمد

    صلاة ممسكة الانتشاق

    And his companions, and followers

    As long as stars shine at night

  52. وأصحابه الغر والتابعين

    مدى ما حدا الظعن حادي النياق
