1. حزن يفور ومهجة تتقطع

    وأسى يجيش وعبرة تتربع

    Sorrow gushes and a heart breaks

    Sorrow surges and tears flow

  2. وتأسف متردد وتلهف

    متصعد وتأوه وتوجع

    Regret hovers and longing rises

    It ascends with sighs and pains

  3. وزفير أنفاس يرددها الأسى

    كادت تقد بها الحشا والأضلع

    With sighs the grief repeats

    It nearly cracked my ribs and bones

  4. لمصيبة كل المصائب عندها

    هانت ووقع منّية لا تدفع

    A disaster compared to which all disasters

    Seem trivial, and an affliction not to be relieved

  5. هي ثلمة وقعت ولا جبر لها

    أبدا وشنع مكارم لا يرفع

    It is a piercing wound with no healing

    Never any dignity restored

  6. هذا هو الرزء العظيم وها هو ال

    خطب الجسيم وذا النبأ الأفظع

    This is the great calamity, this is the

    Grievous news, this most dreadful event

  7. جبل ثوى من ال حي شنوءة

    وخضم بحر غار وهو المترع

    A mountain sheltering the living collapsed

    A foaming sea and overflowing cup

  8. كادت لمصرعه السموات العلا

    فوق البسيطة من علاها تصرع

    The heavens, domes above the earth

    Nearly collapsed at his death

  9. من سره دفن العلوم فهكذا

    دفن العلوم وهكذا فتشيع

    He in whose mystery knowledge was buried

    So knowledge was buried as he was buried

  10. اليوم قد مات الذي فخرت به

    عوف وإبنا تبع ومرقع

    Today died the one we prided ourselves on

    More than Auf, Ibn Taeb and Marqab

  11. اليوم مات خليفة الرحمن من

    بعد النبي اللوذعي الأورع

    Today died the caliph of the Merciful after

    The Prophet, the devout and pure

  12. اليوم قد أودى الذي من علمه

    ملأ الدفاتر والزمان الأوسع

    Today died he whose knowledge

    Filled books and the vastest eras

  13. اليوم قد مات الذي أهدى الورى

    لشرائع الاسلام وهو المشرع

    Today died he who guided mankind

    To Islam's laws, the legislator

  14. اليوم مات فتى تموت لموته

    كل البلاد ومن عليها أجمع

    Today a youth died at whose death

    Every land and all who dwell therein mourn

  15. اليوم مات فتى يضر وينفع

    أبداً ويحفظ من يشاء ويرفع

    Today a youth died who harms and benefits

    For ever, upholds and elevates whom He wills

  16. قد كان يخدع في الاله محبة

    وعن المحامد والتقى لا يخدع

    Sincere in his devotion to God

    Never dissembling in praise and piety

  17. ذو فطنة في كشف كل خفية

    وذكاؤه يدني له ما يشسع

    Keen in discerning all that's hidden

    His intelligence grasped whatever he desired

  18. قاض يرى بفؤاده ما لا يرى

    بعيونه الفطن النبيه الأصمع

    A judge who saw with his heart what no

    Keen, astute and wise judge can see

  19. فكأنما الخصماء في نظراته

    نبل العدو لمقلتيه تتبع

    As if both parties in his gaze

    Were prey seized by his sharp glance

  20. وكأنما المنصوص والمكنون وال

    مجموع والاجماع منه تنبع

    As if the explicit and implicit, gathered and agreed

    Flowed from him, origin and branch

  21. ففؤاده أصل الأصول وذهنه

    فرع الأصول به الفروع تفرع

    His heart the root of rules, his mind

    The branch; from it rules branch out

  22. لو علمه بحر يصور ما جرى

    للخضر فلك من عباب يترع

    If his knowledge were a sea that pictured

    Al-Khidr's deeds, it would be a swelling ocean

  23. لو زهده نور يكون لكورت

    شمس النهار به وسد المطلع

    If his asceticism were a light, for all time

    It would be the sun filling the firmament

  24. لو عزمه سيفاً يشحذ لم يزل

    أبدا لهامات النوائب يقطع

    If his resolve were a sharpened sword

    It would always cut down calamities

  25. أفتى سعيد يا محمد هل إذا

    ناداك والدك المدله تسمع

    Did you hear, O happy Muhammad, when

    Your father the summoner called, did you hear?

  26. فينا نشأت كمزنة في أزمة

    قشعت وكان بها الرجا لا يقشع

    Among us you grew like a sapling in barren ground

    That flourished though no hope of rain remained

  27. وبقاء مثلك يا محمد عادم

    ظرف الزمان بك امتلا لا يوسع

    One like you, Muhammad, being lost

    The world, however vast, cannot contain

  28. إن كان ضاق بك الزمان عن البقا

    فحميد صنعك يا محمد مهيع

    If time was too narrow to keep you

    Glorious is your work, O Muhammad

  29. فكأن ذكرك بعد موتك روضة

    جيدت فأصبح نبتها يتضوع

    So your memory after your death is like

    A fresh garden, its plants lush in the morning

  30. أبكي عليك وليس يجديني البكا

    عوضا ولا أرجوك عندي ترجع

    I weep for you though weeping brings no substitute

    Nor hope that you will return to console me

  31. ولقد بكتك منائر ومنابر

    ودفاتر ومحابر والمرفع

    Minbars, scrolls, sanctuaries and pulpits

    Schools, gardens, fortresses wept for you

  32. ومدارس ومغارس وغرائس

    ونفائس في المكرمات وأربع

    Great deeds, prides, and splendid buildings

    You built, and tribes who feared you

  33. ومآثر ومفاخر وعمائر

    عمّرتها وعشائر بك رُوّعوا

    Oman after you is an afflicted widow

    Alas, after you its light cannot shine

  34. فعمان بعدك مقلة قد أفقئت

    هيهات بعدك نورها لا يسطع

    You should rend its garment in grief

    And scratch its face or slap it

  35. حقاً عليك بأن تشقق جيبها

    حُزناً وتخمش وجهها أو تصفع

    You protected it with your knowledge

    None after you can protect it

  36. قد كنت حاميها بعلمك مانعاً

    وسواك بعدك عاجز لا يمنع

    You possessed immense learning, yet still

    The Sunni and Shiite sought answers from you

  37. قد كُنت ذا جدل بعلمك دونها

    إِن أسند السنيُّ والمتشيع

    After you, Muhammad, the pillars of religion

    Are demolished and dreams lost

  38. فالدين بعدك يا محمد هدمت

    أركانه والحلم فهو مضيّع

    You strengthened Ibadhi and Sunni pillars

    Once firm, now tottering

  39. ضعضعت أركان الأباضي والرجا

    بك أشيد وكان لا يتضعضع

    Piety, knowledge, proof and generosity

    Lie buried in your grave altogether

  40. دفن التقى والعلم عندك والحجى

    والمكرمات ببطن لحدك أجمع

    Your tomb has become inhabited ruins

    While people's dwellings after you are desolate

  41. فبلاقع الموتى عماراً أصبحت

    وعمارة الأحياء بعدك بلقع

    Strange that a grave three cubits long

    And one cubit wide can contain

  42. عجباً ثلاثة أذرع في طولها

    قبراً وشبراً عرضه إذ تذرع

    The mountain of virtues and purity

    Whose knowledge was an overflowing sea

  43. فيه ثوى جبل المكارم والنهى

    عمت وعلمك فيه بحر مترع

    Would that my grave, O Muhammad, were next to yours

    That I might rest close to you in the darkness

  44. يا ليت قبرك يا محمد مقلتي

    فلعلني ما أنت فيها أهجع

    You left me endless grief for you

    Choosing whom to wear out with your sorrow

  45. أبقيت لي حزناً عليك مدلها

    يختار من يبلى بحزنك ينجع

    Just as I am worn out by you, so is the dust that holds you

    In mourning after you, you made doves moan

  46. بي مثل ما بك ما حملت من الثرى

    هذاك فالمبلى وذا فالمنجع

    On branches, cooing in sadness

    And you taught the lonely places that

  47. هيجت بعدك في البكاء حمائماً

    فوق الغُصون على هديل تسجع

    Like me grieving for you, they should grieve

    When, Muhammad, shall we meet again

  48. وتلقنت مني الفوارق أنة

    فغدت كما رجعت فيك ترجع

    Or have we no hope of union before the Resurrection?

    After you, the living are hateful to me

  49. هذا الفراق متى اللقاء محمد

    أو ما لنا قبل القيامة مطمع

    To me they are poison, and your friendship pure water

    While after your death they shun me

  50. بغضت لي الأحياء بعدك إنهم

    عندي فهم سم وجدك منقع

    As if among them I am Joshua

    You were my most loyal counsellor in religion

  51. وأنا الغريب خلاف موتك عندهم

    فكأنني في قومه أنا يوشع

    But now I fear you are too far to intercede

    You made me love these tombs and their people

  52. قد كُنت لي في الدين أخلص ناصح

    فاليوم راج منك أنك تشفع

    For in them my secrets will be divulged

    Two genuflections by your tomb suffice

  53. حببت لي هذي القبور وأهلها

    فيهن أسراري عليك تذيع

    As prayers, for the supplicant praying

    I who console others for your loss

  54. تكبيرتان حيال قبرك حجة

    بفنائه يتضرع المتضرع

    Am most distressed by you, my heart consumed

    Strangest of wonders, a corpse consoling

  55. وأنا المعزي فيك قد عز العزا

    عندي عليك ففيك قلبي مولع

    Another corpse, the consoler most afflicted

    The clan of Abdelsalam remain for us

  56. ومن العجائب ميت في ميت

    ميتاً يعزي والمعزي أفجع

    Knowledge is perfected, Ibadhi more brilliant

    Console, Ibn Muhammad, for you must console

  57. وإذا بنو عبد السلام بقوا لنا

    فالعلم طام والأَباضي أنصع

    Religion, in you meticulously guarded

    Death's door admits us all

  58. عياد يا ابن محمد فلك العزا

    فيمن يعزي الدين فيه مورع

    It is the path we must tread and hurry past

    Upon the tomb of the scholar Muhammad

  59. فالموت باب كلنا ولاجه

    وهو السبيل بمن تمر وتسرع

    Gloom pours and darkness gathers

    Weeping over him as we weep

  60. جادت على قبر الفقيه محمد

    وطفاء سارية تهل وتهمع

    With sorrows no tears can relieve

    Watering a grave where he rests

  61. تبكي عليه بعبرة كبكائنا

    لم ترق منها للكآبة أدمع

    And tombs around him holding crumbled bones

    To the Merciful's mercy his soul has flown

  62. تروي ضريحاً حله ومقابرا

    من حوله فيها عظام زمزع

    Rising through heavenly spheres

    And over him God prayed, after His

  63. ولرحمة الرحمن راحت روحه

    وإلى مراتب في العلى فترفع

    Chosen Prophet, as long as pillars stand

    On the two noble ones, their family

  64. وعليه صلى اللَه بعد نبيه ال

    مختار ما رقلت أمون خرشع

    And followers, and those who follow them

  65. وعلى الضجيعين الكرام وآله

    والتابعين لهم ومن هو يتبع
