1. Praise be to God, Lord of the Tablet and the air,

    and of wind, repose, sweet basil, and the spirit.

  2. The Creator of disclosure from disclosure [sense unclear], doing no wrong

    to inanimate things, bodies, or beings with a spirit.

  3. The Possessor of dominion: no one sends Him revelation concerning it;

    nor have creatures spoken of it; rather, He reveals.

  4. He built the heavens in layers, without pillars,

    and laid out the earth as a joined whole, like [an unclear comparison].

  5. He anchored the steadfast mountains, standing firm upon her,

    so that desire, out of love for her, may say, “Roam!”

  6. He made ships sail by wind upon the seas; and if

    He willed, He would make their ships sail without wind.

  7. He holds the birds in the open sky, without

    grasping them, and releases them without a gesture.

  8. He brings forth winds to fertilize the tenuous rain clouds,

    so they yield water, an offspring of something fertilized.

  9. He brightened the meadows with fresh blossoms, and with the—

    intermingled growth, of tender greenery and wormwood.

  10. Within them He opened the plants’ sheaths; some are

    crimson, dark-green, edible, and gazed upon.

  11. He apportioned sustenance among all creatures,

    as water is divided among flowers and great trees.

  12. Blessed is God [uncertain reading], a being incomparable to

    anything; He exists alive, without possessing a spirit.

  13. He is the Eternal, and He brings everything anew

    into existence; and what exists is [last word unclear].

  14. All-glorious, All-holy, Knower of hidden things; no one

    but Him is called All-holy and All-glorious.

  15. His knowledge encompasses what will come, what has been, and what

    has not yet been—a knowledge explicit and truly clear.

  16. He is the All-hearing, without hearing or sight;

    at night He sees ants creeping through the open spaces.

  17. O my Creator, I call upon You in supplication,

    with the prayer of one shackled by sin, cast down.

  18. O Accepter of repentance, grant me forgiveness,

    though I have come with striving that yielded no gain.

  19. In You I sought refuge from the sin that set my soul trembling,

    in fear of it, and sent it flying through the air.

  20. Pardon, forgiveness, kindness, and fulfillment of wishes—

    O You, to whose face my worship and glorification are devoted.

  21. Do not hold me to account for the wrongs I have committed,

    nor let me die while I remain unforgiven.

  22. Hear my prayer; do not overturn my vessel, for this

    hand of mine [uncertain spelling] has sought a bounty You freely bestow.

  23. O fragrance [sense unclear] of a servant You have now answered, who called on You at

    the door of hope—a gate that is not open.

  24. My Master, I have asked You for Noah’s contentment; do not

    make my hope feeble beside Noah’s hope.

  25. Let me be answered [uncertain reading], and grant me forgiveness from You,

    and make the one I praise my intercessor on the Day of Gathering:

  26. Muhammad, the Chosen One, sent forth from Mudar,

    the noblest of the living upon earth and of those laid in graves.

  27. Accept my repentance, for my means have been cut off,

    save those leading to You; my plight remains unexplained.

  28. So say, “I have freed you from the sin through which you became

    a prisoner in fetters heavy to bear, held fast.

  29. I have recorded you among the righteous, and

    made your state before Me free of reproach.

  30. I have protected you from Hell’s fire tomorrow.”

    And say to my soul, “Go to your Paradise.”
