And a garden the rain’s dew spent the night weaving—
until, once it sprang forth, the dew began to brocade it.
It weeps over it like a lover whose beloved has parted from him,
making it laugh at times and coaxing it into bloom.
When the fragrance of its narcissus breathes within it,
the bloom of its lavender coos to its violets.
There I say to our cupbearer, while in his hand he holds
a cup like a flame of fire as he kindles it:
Mix it with nothing but the moisture of your own mouth; and if
you withhold that, then my tears shall mix it.
The least your love has done to me is that my blood,
whenever the cup draws near my heart, almost brings it to a boil.
