Life is fleeting, and time gallops by,

I delight in revelry at dawn’s first light,

And I fancy drink from an earthen jug.

When morning’s radiance peeks through the veil,

I’m overcome with joy and feel I could fly.

When I behold the heavens all aquiver,

With clouds adorning its flanks here and there,

Like an immaculate bride whose chest is bejeweled

With glittering gems of azure and crystal,

Pleasures beckon me to seize the day,

So I answer the call, O blissful fool!

My thirst leads me to the wine-sellers’ lane,

For I crave the pourers of the cup when it makes the rounds.

And many a tryst have I with the vine,

Left giddy by the dregs of the wine.

I coaxed the first fruit from its branches,

With water gushing through its conduits.

Myself, a boon companion, a singing girl,

    A goblet, a flute, a tambourine, and a lute -

We six make merry through the night.
