I bore patiently the slow coming of patience’s outcome.
I warred against my fate—if only I had been aided against Fate.
With my outward bearing, I humbled the gloaters’ gaze,
though my soul was crushed by what lay hidden within me.
Though poor, God will not have me ask for riches,
nor let the ease apparent in me know aught of hardship.
