غَضِبتُ عَلى نَفسٍ عَلَيها غَضِبتُمُ
فَلَيسَ لَها جِسمي بِدارِ مُقامِ
I grew angry with my soul—with it you grew angry;
Thus my body is no lasting abode for it.
سَلِ البَيتَ إِن أَضحى مِنَ الناسِ خالِياً
أَيَسمَعُ مِنّي إِن دَخَلتُ سَلامي
Ask the house, if it stands empty of people:
Would it hear my greeting if I entered?
