1. وَعَقرَبٍ في وَردِ خَدٍّ وَفي

    مُستَأنِسِ اللَثمِ بِها نَدَّهْ

    A scorpion amid the rose of a cheek; and as for

    one accustomed to kissing it, it frightened him away.

  2. ما عَقرَبٌ إِلّا لَها شَوكَةٌ

    وَعَقرَبُ الخَدِّ لَها وَردَهْ

    There is no scorpion without a thorn—a sting;

    but the cheek’s scorpion has its rose.
