كادَ العَذولُ يُضِلُّني

عَن حُكمِهِ لَولا اِصطِباري

The reproacher nearly turned me

from his dominion, but for my patient endurance.

لا يَبقَ لِلعُشّاقِ بَع

دَ تَبَصُّري فيهِ اِغتِراري

No delusion of mine can remain among lovers after

this clear insight of mine into love.

أنا في الهَوى مِمَّن يُقا

رَنُ بِالفَلاسِفَةِ الكِبارِ

In love, I am one of those compared

with the great philosophers.

أَثارَهُ سودٌ بِقَل

بي وَهْيَ بيضٌ في عِذاري

Dark tresses stirred it in my heart,

though the hair upon my cheek is white.

كَم ذا التَغاضي وَالتَنَص

صُحُ بَينَ سِرٍّ أَو جِهارِ

How long will this looking away and admonition continue,

whether in secret or openly?

حُرَقُ الغَرامِ لَذيذَةٌ

لا بِتَّ مُحتَرِقاً بِناري

The burnings of passion are delicious;

may you never spend a night burning in my fire.
